Beech Grove School Overview

Beech Grove School is an independent, co-educational Christian day and boarding school at Nonington, near Dover in Kent, for children aged 4 to 18. Established in 1996, it stands within the Beech Grove Bruderhof, a Christian community on a 140-acre rural site, and is one of two schools in England owned and run by the charity Church Communities UK. Most pupils are children of community families, and the school also admits a number of external pupils.

The school follows an American-style grade structure. Children aged 4 to 6 attend kindergarten, the Junior School covers 1st to 8th Grade, equivalent to Years 2 to 9, and the Senior School covers 9th to 12th Grade, equivalent to Years 10 to 13. The Senior School is accredited by Cognia, a US-based school accreditation organisation, and the school is a member of the Boarding Schools' Association.

Boarding at Beech Grove School

Boarding is offered in the Senior School for students from 9th to 12th Grade, broadly ages 14 to 18. The boarding community is small, with around 25 boarders, and international students admitted to the Senior School can live in the Boarding House. Boarders have a weekend programme as well as regular weekends at home, and the school describes boarding as a second home that builds independence and practical life skills.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boarders live in a single Boarding House with separate wings for boys and girls. Students share bedrooms with other boarders and have the use of a kitchen and a common room, and a handbook for boarders sets out the routines and expectations of house life.

Boarding Life

The school day runs in a morning and an afternoon session, finishing at 4.30pm. In the evenings, boarders take part in activities when study commitments allow, and the house runs a programme of activities for boarders at weekends.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Staff adapt teaching resources so that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities can follow the same learning as their classmates, and each student's placement is reviewed every year to confirm that the school can continue to meet their needs. Learning support and pastoral care are provided; families should discuss individual needs with British Guardianship.

International boarders at Beech Grove School are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at Beech Grove School

Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Beech Grove School website.

Information for International Students and Parents

Beech Grove School admits international students to its Senior School from 9th to 12th Grade, equivalent to Years 10 to 13, and international students can live in the school's Boarding House. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. Because the school uses American grade levels, British Guardianship can advise families on how a student's current year group maps across. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Placements are reviewed at the end of each academic year, so students need English that allows them to keep pace with Senior School lessons.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Beech Grove School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register. The visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

We provide this as an AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship service.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Beech Grove School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
