It is part of the Brighton College Family of Schools and is run by Newells School Trust, a registered charity, and many pupils move on to Brighton College at 13.
Boarding is offered from Year 4. Specialist teachers prepare pupils for a wide range of senior schools, many with scholarships. Music and drama are taught weekly from Nursery, and sport from Reception. The grounds include playing fields, a golf course, a full-size astro, a heated pool and tennis courts.
Full, weekly and flexi boarding are available from age 8, and the boarding house holds up to 70 boarders. Full boarders follow a weekend programme, while weekly boarders go home on Friday and return on Monday, with a London bus service. There is no Saturday school.
Boarders live together in the school's boarding house, sharing dormitories and a common room used for film nights and social time; room allocation is confirmed by the school on entry. A dedicated boarding team, led by a House Parent, is responsible for pastoral care.
Evenings include film nights, cookery, escape rooms, barbecues, camping in the grounds and a weekly international food evening. At weekends boarders enjoy yoga, swimming, golf, climbing and pottery on site, with outings to Go Ape and cultural trips to London and Brighton, and they use Brighton College's cinema.
Pupils with mild and specific learning difficulties receive individualised support through one-to-one and small-group sessions, with needs monitored from an early age and a head of learning support working closely with pupils, teachers and parents. Provision also covers moderate learning difficulties, speech and language needs, social, emotional and mental health needs and hearing impairment.
