Learn More →Bromsgrove School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire, educating pupils from 2 to 18 on a 100-acre campus around 20 minutes south of Birmingham. It comprises a Pre-Prep, a Prep School for ages 7 to 13 and a Senior School for ages 13 to 18. First recorded in 1476 and refounded as a grammar school in 1553, Bromsgrove has sister schools carrying its name in Thailand and China.
Senior pupils take GCSEs, then choose in a Sixth Form of more than 400 students between A Levels with the Extended Project Qualification, the International Baccalaureate Diploma and BTEC courses in Sport and Business.
Around 600 pupils aged 7 to 18 board, from more than 70 nationalities, including many Armed Forces families. Most are full boarders, and weekly boarding is also offered. There are no exeat weekends, so boarders can stay in school throughout each term, and the Prep School offers one-term placements.
Prep boarders live in Page House, a purpose-built house for up to 100 boys and girls aged 7 to 13, sharing bedrooms with friends, under resident Houseparents who also teach, with Housemothers and non-resident tutors. Senior boys board in Elmshurst and Wendron-Gordon and girls in Mary Windsor and Oakley, each a vertical house for ages 13 to 18. Housman Hall, the former home of the poet A. E. Housman, is a co-educational house for up to 100 Sixth Form boarders. Senior houses are led by resident Houseparents with Housemothers and tutors.
Prep boarders have supervised evening prep, and staff are on duty around the clock. Saturdays offer a largely optional activities programme, and Sunday trips range from London and Stratford theatre visits to cinema, shopping, theme parks and go-karting. During shorter holidays boarders may stay on site with the holiday care team.
The Learning Support department screens pupils and arranges exam access, with specialist one-to-one or small-group tuition. The school states it can support dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, autism, emotional and mental health needs, limited mobility and hearing or visual impairment. Nurses in the Boarders' Clinic work under the School Doctor, and senior pupils can use an independent counselling service.

Bromsgrove expects international applicants to be reasonably fluent in English from the start, as they follow the full curriculum alongside British classmates, and it does not publish minimum CEFR or IELTS levels by year. The EAL department offers small-group lessons, help within subject classes and assistance with evening prep for boarders. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Bromsgrove School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and helps families with the visa requirements, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Bromsgrove refers families who need a guardian to AEGIS and the Boarding Schools' Association. Boarding houses close over the Christmas and summer holidays, so international boarders need reliable arrangements for those breaks and for travel at the start and end of term.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Bromsgrove School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
