Learn More →Cardiff Sixth Form College, Cambridge is an independent, co-educational sixth form college in the centre of Cambridge, where almost all of the roughly 100 students board. It opened in September 2022 as the second campus of Cardiff Sixth Form College and is part of Dukes Education, a UK group of independent schools and colleges. Teaching takes place on Regent Street in the city centre, near the University of Cambridge.
The academic programme is a two-year A Level course with a strong STEM focus. Subjects include Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Computer Science, Economics and Psychology, taught in small classes. Students can add the Extended Project Qualification and enter academic Olympiads, while the college's super-curricular programme, The Cambridge Edge, offers research projects, academic societies and competitions.
Around 95 of the students are full boarders, with only a handful of day students. The student body is international, and almost every student speaks English as an additional language. Boarding is full boarding only, and boarders are not expected to leave at weekends.
Boarders live on a single residential site about a mile from the teaching building, in three boarding houses within a gated and managed complex. Students have single en-suite bedrooms arranged in clusters, with each cluster sharing a kitchen. Teams of houseparents and senior houseparents, supported by a matron, run the houses, and staff sleep on site so that boarders are supervised around the clock.
Boarding is designed as a step towards university life: residents organise their own study, look after shared spaces and prepare some of their own meals. Activities include social events, faith celebrations, local concerts and recitals, informal sport, off-site trips, house competitions and inter-school fixtures, and enrichment weeks add further trips and academic activities.
Students with special educational needs have individual education plans and personalised support. Pastoral care is shared by tutors and boarding staff, who meet weekly to identify students needing extra help, and students can see a counsellor and use a professionally staffed medical centre. The college also provides careers guidance and personalised university advice, including preparation for Oxbridge, medicine and applications overseas.
