Learn More →Dean Close Kingham Hill School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 11 to 18, set in 105 acres of Cotswold countryside at Kingham, near Chipping Norton in Oxfordshire. Also known as Kingham Hill School, it is part of the Dean Close Foundation, a family of schools and nurseries centred on Dean Close School in Cheltenham. The school has a Christian heritage and around 290 pupils.
Pupils take GCSEs to age 16, and the Sixth Form offers A Levels in around 20 subjects alongside BTEC and CTEC courses, with every student completing the Extended Project Qualification. An American curriculum pathway, accredited by the Middle States Association, leads to a US-style high school diploma with access to Advanced Placement courses. London Heathrow is about 90 minutes away by road.
Around 110 pupils board, about half of the school, and most are full boarders, so the campus stays busy at weekends. Families can choose full, weekly or flexi boarding. Boarders come from across the UK, including Forces families, and from the United States and other countries.
Boarders live in single-sex houses for boys and girls, each with common rooms and study areas. Younger pupils share dormitories of four to eight, Lower Sixth students may share a room, and most Upper Sixth students have a single room. Houseparents, Pastoral Assistants and Matrons provide care around the clock and keep parents updated on house life.
Tea-time is the main social point of the evening, followed by prep and free time, when the swimming pool and fitness suite are often open. With no Saturday school, Saturdays bring outings, house activities such as go-karting and paintballing, workshops and community service, while Sundays are quieter, with a lie-in, independent study or a visit to Chipping Norton.
