Frensham Heights Overview

Frensham Heights is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school at Rowledge, on the edge of Farnham in Surrey, educating around 500 pupils aged 3 to 18. Founded in 1925, it is a progressive, non-denominational school where pupils wear their own clothes and address teachers by their first names.

Pupils progress from the Firefly Nursery and Junior School through the Middle and Senior School to GCSEs, and the Sixth Form offers A Levels alongside BTEC courses and Sixth Form Arts Awards. Boarding begins in Year 7. Farnham has direct trains to London Waterloo in just under an hour.

Boarding at Frensham Heights

Boarders can choose full boarding seven days a week, weekly boarding from Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon, or flexi boarding on the same three nights each week. Around a quarter of boarders come from overseas, from countries including France, Germany, Spain, Ukraine, China, Hong Kong, South Korea, Nigeria and the USA.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

There are three co-educational boarding houses, each for a different age group and each with its own residential team. Hamilton House is the junior house for Years 7 to 9, Main House takes Years 10 and 11 in separate girls' and boys' wings linked by shared common rooms, and Roberts House is home to sixth form boarders and day students. Boys and girls sleep on separate corridors, and Roberts House provides single rooms, kitchens and quiet study spaces.

Boarding Life

Evenings combine dedicated prep time with activities such as basketball, the fitness suite, cooking, arts and crafts, esports, film nights and open sessions in the art centre. Saturdays are busy with activities and trips, while Sundays are quieter. Outings include shopping in London and Guildford, theatre visits and theme parks, and each school year opens with a Boarders Weekend.

Academic and Pastoral Support

A small Support for Learning team works with pupils with mild learning difficulties, offering targeted help in English, mathematics and study skills. All pupils are screened on entry to Year 7 so that teaching can respond to their needs. Sixth formers receive dedicated pastoral care and higher education and careers guidance.

Every international boarder at Frensham Heights must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Information for International Students and Parents

Frensham Heights admits international boarders from Year 7, when boarding begins, through to the Sixth Form. The main entry points to the Middle and Senior School are Year 7 and Year 9, with applications for Year 8 and Year 10 considered individually, and the Sixth Form starts in Year 12. Most students join in September. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Students whose first language is not English may be recommended English as an Additional Language support, normally up to two lessons a week. The language department also offers additional English help where needed.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Frensham Heights is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register. Once a place is accepted, the school works with a specialist immigration adviser that issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies and helps families with the visa process, while the application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

Frensham Heights requires each international student's guardian to be over 25 and a British citizen or settled in the UK, and checks before the student starts that living arrangements meet UK immigration rules. The guardian handles travel and accommodation over half terms and Bank Holiday weekends, and attends parents' evenings or steps in during illness when parents cannot. The school strongly recommends AEGIS accredited guardians.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Frensham Heights boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays.
