Learn More →Giggleswick School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school near Settle in North Yorkshire, educating pupils aged 2 to 18. The campus sits in a limestone valley on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales National Park. Founded in 1512, the school is a Church of England foundation.
Senior pupils take GCSEs, and in the co-educational Sixth Form most students study three A Levels with an Extended Project Qualification or a Gold Arts Award, while a BTEC Level 3 Diploma combined with an A Level offers a vocational route. Weekly meetings with a personal tutor support university applications in the UK and overseas.
Boarding is available from Year 4, and families can choose full boarding seven nights a week, five-night or three-night flexi boarding, or another agreed pattern. By the Sixth Form more than 80% of pupils board, most of them full time. Boarders come from across the UK and overseas, including China, Germany, Spain and France.
Boarders from Year 4 to Year 8 live in Catteral, a co-educational junior house where new pupils are paired with a Year 8 mentor. From Year 9, pupils move into one of four senior houses that run through to the Upper Sixth: Carr and Style for girls, and Nowell-Morrison and Paley-Shute for boys. Each house mixes boarders and day pupils under a resident Housemaster or Housemistress, supported by resident tutors and a matron. Room allocation is confirmed by the school on entry.
House evenings include climbing clubs, film nights, cultural festivals and house dinners, and the annual House Singing and Speaking competition brings boarders together. Sixth Formers help lead house events and charity work. International boarders attend a Welcome Camp before term begins, and a Head of International Pupils organises cultural events through the year.
The Learning Support team, led by a qualified SENCO, provides assessments, personalised programmes, in-class help from specialist teaching assistants and structured multi-sensory teaching. Access arrangements such as extra time are assessed at no extra cost. The Good Schools Guide lists provision for autism spectrum conditions and ADHD. A Wellbeing Centre team and a resident school nurse are based on site.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student.
