Learn More →Godstowe School is an independent day and boarding prep school in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire, set in 12 acres of parkland. The Nursery and Pre-Prep take boys and girls up to age 7, while the Prep School, where boarding is offered, is for girls aged 7 to 13. Founded in 1900 with encouragement from the founder of Wycombe Abbey, it became England's first all-girls prep school and keeps close ties with Wycombe Abbey.
Entry is non-selective. Girls leave at 11 or 13 for senior schools such as Benenden, Cheltenham Ladies' College, Downe House, Wellington College and Wycombe Abbey, and many win scholarships. London Heathrow is about 40 minutes by road, and central London is around 30 minutes by train.
Girls can board from age 7, choosing full, weekly or flexi boarding or occasional nights. Around a third of Prep School pupils board, including many from overseas, and the school has pupils from around 14 nationalities. All full boarders stay in school at weekends. Short-stay boarding is also offered.
Boarders live in three houses, with older girls in Walker and Turner. Walker is a Victorian house with seven dormitory rooms over three floors and its own garden. Turner, purpose-built in 1996, has small dormitories and three common rooms, including a quiet study room. House Parents and other resident staff run each house, and new boarders are given a house buddy.
Staff help boarders with homework after school, and an after-supper programme mixes free time, activities and learning. Saturday afternoons are relaxed once prep and music practice are done. Weekends bring sports fixtures, creative workshops, swimming, cooking contests and talent shows, with trips to Brighton Pier, Thorpe Park, county shows, theatres, ice skating and watersports at Bray Lake.
The learning support team includes specialist teachers, a learning support assistant and a speech and language therapist, with occupational therapy on site. Pupils work in small groups or one to one, and the Good Schools Guide lists support for dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD, moderate learning difficulties, SEMH and speech and language needs. A Deputy Head (Pastoral), Independent Listeners and trained mental health ambassadors support wellbeing.

Godstowe School accepts girls as boarders from Year 3 (age 7) to Year 8 (age 12). Most international boarders join for a full year starting in September, and girls move on to senior school at 11 or 13, with the school advising each family on senior school choice from Year 3 onwards. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
The school does not publish minimum English levels by year of entry, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Timetabled EAL lessons help international girls build reading, writing, vocabulary, grammar and listening skills so they can follow the main curriculum, and pupils prepare for Common Entrance EAL and English papers or the Cambridge PET and FCE exams.
Girls coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Godstowe School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

British Guardianship remains your child's educational guardian throughout every stay.
We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Godstowe School is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Godstowe School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
