Langley School Overview

Langley School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Norfolk for children aged six months to 18. It operates on two sites: the nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School are at Taverham, north-west of Norwich, while the Senior School, Sixth Form and boarding are based at Langley Park near Loddon, south-east of the city. The Loddon campus centres on Langley Hall, a Palladian country house built in 1737, in around 110 acres of grounds. Founded in Norwich in 1910 as the Norwich High School for Boys, the school moved to Langley Park after the Second World War.

The Senior School takes pupils from age 10, following GCSE courses before a Sixth Form offering A Levels, BTEC qualifications and the Extended Project Qualification. Sport has a strong profile, with football and rugby academies.

Boarding at Langley School

Langley School offers full boarding for international students; current boarder numbers are available on request. Boarding is open from age 10 to 18, and families can choose full boarding seven days a week, weekly boarding from Sunday to Friday, or occasional flexi nights. Boarders come from the local area, elsewhere in the UK and overseas, and most international pupils stay for at least two years to complete GCSE or A Level courses. The school also welcomes short-term visitors each year, mainly from Europe.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boarders live in the main building at Langley Park, where the boarding accommodation has more than 100 places. Rooms are single, twin or triple. Facilities include a games room, quiet and social sitting rooms, a boarders' kitchen and study spaces. Boarding staff live on site and are available throughout the day and night.

Boarding Life

Evenings combine supervised prep, activities and free time, with an indoor and outdoor programme on weekday evenings. A dedicated events and activities coordinator plans weekend outings, including trips to the coast, the cinema and theatres, go-karting and Go Ape. Boarders also use the sports hall, gym and floodlit artificial pitches.

Academic and Pastoral Support

A SENCO on each site leads a team of learning support assistants, providing one-to-one and small-group help and assessing for exam access arrangements. Support covers needs including dyslexia, dyscalculia and mild autism. Medical staff are on hand for boarders.

Every international boarder at Langley School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at Langley School

Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Langley School website.

Information for International Students and Parents

Langley School accepts international boarders from age 10, in Year 6, through to the Sixth Form. Most stay for at least two years to complete GCSE or A Level courses, fully integrated into mainstream classes. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

Langley does not publish minimum IELTS or CEFR scores and looks for a basic grasp of English from applicants. Its EAL department supports international pupils with both language and subject content through one-to-one sessions, homework help and language learning software, so that they can follow GCSE and A Level courses alongside UK pupils. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement.

Child Student Visa

Pupils without a UK passport usually need a Child Student visa, unless they hold another status that allows study, such as EU Settled or Pre-settled Status. Langley School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, and families receive support from a specialist immigration adviser engaged by the school, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process.

UK Guardian Requirement

Langley requires a UK-based guardian for every pupil whose parents live outside the UK. The guardian must be over 25, contactable and based within two hours' travel of the school, and may be an educational guardianship organisation, a relative or a family friend. The school points families to AEGIS when choosing a guardian.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Langley School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers contact with the school, travel coordination and accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays.

Short-Term Stays and Exchange Placements

Langley runs immersion stays for international students during term. Visiting groups live in the boarding house, join mainstream lessons with EAL support and take part in weekend trips, with recent stays lasting around four weeks. Families considering a shorter placement can explore our Student Exchange Programme and short stay guardianship.

Frequently Asked Questions

UK boarding schools generally require international students under 18 to have a UK-based guardian, and British Guardianship confirms Langley School's specific requirements as part of your application. The guardian acts on behalf of parents in the UK, is the school's point of contact in an emergency and looks after the student whenever they cannot be at school. We provide this as an AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship service.

Whenever your child cannot stay at Langley School, for example during half terms, exeats or holidays when boarding houses close, they stay with one of our vetted host families. Every host family is visited in their home, provides professional and personal references and holds an Enhanced DBS check for all household members aged 16 and over. British Guardianship remains your child's educational guardian throughout every stay.

We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Langley School is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.

Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Langley School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
