Learn More →Lucton School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school at Lucton, near Leominster in north Herefordshire, educating children from 6 months to 18 years on a 55-acre rural campus. The all-through school comprises a Nursery, Prep School, Middle and Senior School and Sixth Form. It was founded in 1708 by John Pierrepont, a London vintner, as a grammar school for local boys, and began admitting girls in the 1970s.
Pupils work towards GCSEs in the Middle and Senior School. In the Sixth Form, students choose from around 20 A Level subjects or Level 3 BTEC courses in areas such as agriculture, animal care, equine studies and sport, and many add the Extended Project Qualification. Facilities include a swimming pool and an on-site equestrian centre.
Boarders are accepted from the age of 7, and the boarding community numbers around 45 boys and girls. Roughly half are British, and the rest come from countries including Hong Kong, China, Spain, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands. Lucton offers full boarding alongside weekday and flexi boarding options, and full boarders remain at school at weekends.
Boarders live in two houses. School Cottage is home to boarders aged 7 to 13, who share rooms, while older students live in Croft House in individual rooms. Croft House also has a cinema room, games facilities and a kitchen café. Live-in houseparents run each house, and a matron cares for unwell boarders in the school sick bay.
Evenings include teacher-supervised prep, after which boarders can use the sports fields, sports hall, music practice rooms and art room, and the pool and stables are available under supervision. A trip runs every Saturday, from shopping and go-karting to theme parks and city visits, while Sundays are quieter and start with brunch in the dining hall.
Small classes allow teachers to stretch the most able and give extra help where needed. One-to-one tuition is available at additional cost for mild learning difficulties such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia, although the school does not cater for acute learning needs. Each Sixth Form student has a dedicated tutor for university guidance.
Every international boarder at Lucton School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.
Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Lucton School website.
Lucton School welcomes international boarders from the age of 7 through to the Sixth Form, and Years 7, 9 and 12 are key entry points for international students. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. The school provides free transfers to and from London Heathrow and Birmingham airports at the beginning and end of each term. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Lucton's EAL teaching follows the Cambridge English as a second language framework. In the lower years, international pupils take two EAL lessons a week in place of French, rising to seven a week in Years 10 and 11. Sixth Form students are grouped by ability and prepared for IELTS in Year 13, and extra one-to-one lessons can be arranged.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Lucton School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and can help families with the student visa process, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Lucton School requires every international student to have a UK-based guardian, appointed by the family or their agent, and recommends that the guardian lives within three hours of the school. The school strongly recommends AEGIS or BSA accredited guardians and meets each newly appointed guardian during the first half term. School staff may not act as guardians.
British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Lucton School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.

We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Lucton School is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Lucton School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
