Perrott Hill Overview

Perrott Hill is an independent, co-educational day and boarding prep school at North Perrott, near Crewkerne in south Somerset, close to the Devon and Dorset borders. It educates children from nursery age to 13, with the Nursery and Pre-Prep in a converted stable courtyard beside the main building. Founded in 1946 and centred on North Perrott Manor, a Victorian country house, the school has been part of Stirling Education, a group of schools across Europe, India and the Middle East, since 2021.

Perrott Hill prepares pupils for senior school entry at 13 through the Common Entrance route and scholarship preparation in academic subjects, sport, music, drama and art, with small classes and a broad activities programme.

Boarding at Perrott Hill

Around 50 pupils board, roughly 20 of them as full boarders, alongside weekly and flexi boarders. Weekly, regular and flexi boarding are available from Year 3, and full boarding, with weekends spent at school, from Year 5. Boarders come from across the UK and from countries including Spain, Nigeria, the United States and China. Termly Boarding Activity Nights let day pupils try a night in the boarding house.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boarders live in the main house, where girls and boys have their own separate areas and common rooms. Pupils sleep in dormitories, with older pupils acting as Dorm Captains, and a dedicated team of boarding staff runs the house. A quiet room is set aside for boarders to make video calls to their families.

Boarding Life

Evenings mix structured activities with free time, including sport, creative arts, film nights and team challenges. Full boarders follow a weekend programme of trips out, themed events and on-site challenges. In 2024 the school received a Boarding Schools' Association award for its work on belonging and inclusion.

Academic and Pastoral Support

The Learning Support Department helps teachers adapt lessons and materials, and offers in-class help, small-group work and one-to-one specialist lessons. The Good Schools Guide lists support for needs including dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, autism and anxiety. An EAL department supports international pupils, and every new boarder is given day and boarding buddies. Pastoral care follows a Circle of Care, in which tutors, Dorm Captains and Independent Listeners all play a part.

International boarders at Perrott Hill are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Information for International Students and Parents

Perrott Hill admits international pupils as full boarders from Year 5, at around age 9, through to Year 8, after which pupils move on to UK senior schools at 13. The school usually asks international pupils to stay for at least one academic year, although a single term is occasionally agreed, depending on the balance of the year group. Many stay on to progress to UK senior schools. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

Perrott Hill does not publish minimum English levels by year of entry. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Pupils who need help with English are taught by the school's EAL department, which supports their progress across the curriculum, and the EAL classroom serves as a welcoming base for international pupils during the day.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Perrott Hill School Ltd, the company that runs the school, is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, so the school can sponsor international boarders for this visa. The visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

UK boarding schools generally require international boarders under 18 to have a UK guardian, and British Guardianship confirms each school's specific requirements as part of placement. For pupils of prep school age, the guardian's role is especially practical, covering travel between the airport and school, care during exeats and half terms, and contact with boarding staff on behalf of parents.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Perrott Hill boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.
