Learn More →Plymouth College is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school at Ford Park, just north of Plymouth city centre in Devon, educating pupils aged 3 to 18 on a single site. Founded in 1877 as a boys' school, it became fully co-educational in 1995. The school is part of the Galaxy Global Education Group, an international education group whose UK schools also include Malvern St James and Ruthin School.
Boarding starts in Year 7, and boarders progress through GCSEs to the Sixth Form, where students take three A Levels or a BTEC-accredited Sports Baccalaureate, often alongside the Extended Project Qualification. Sport is a strong feature, including the Plymouth College Aquatics swimming programme and a high-performance football programme.
More than 60 pupils board, most of them full boarders staying seven days a week, and the school's international pupils come from more than 30 countries. Weekly boarding and occasional stays of up to 14 nights a term are also offered, and international pupils can take a short-stay full boarding place for one or two terms.
Boarders live in a row of Victorian villas on the school site: boys in Colson and girls in Mannamead, with College House between them as the hub for pastoral care and shared activities. Younger boarders share bedrooms with two others, while older pupils usually have twin or single study bedrooms. Sixth Formers have their own common room, and resident house staff live within the boarding community.
Weekday evenings include supervised homework sessions run by academic staff, use of the sports facilities and house events. Weekend trips range from cinema visits and paintballing to surfing, sailing, kayaking and walks on Dartmoor, including overnight stays at the school's Whiteworks centre on the moor.
The SENCO screens for dyslexia and other learning difficulties, and the SEND team offers tailored interventions. The Good Schools Guide lists support for dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD and autism. The Hub brings together a SEND specialist, nurse, safeguarding lead and counsellor, Houseparents and tutors guide boarders day to day, and Sixth Formers have a dedicated Sixth Form Centre.

Plymouth College admits international boarders from Year 7 to the Sixth Form, either for a full course leading to GCSEs, A Levels or the Sports Baccalaureate, or for a stay of one or two terms. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
Plymouth College does not publish minimum English levels by year of entry. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. EAL support is included for international full boarders.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Plymouth College is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register through Plymouth Education Limited, part of the Galaxy Global Education Group, and guides enrolled pupils through the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies and the supporting documents. The visa application itself is submitted by parents, normally from the home country before travel. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Plymouth College requires international families to appoint a guardian, who helps with travel to and from school, attends school events and arranges holiday accommodation when the student is not travelling home. The school can recommend AEGIS accredited guardianship providers.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Plymouth College may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
