Slindon College Overview

Slindon College is an independent day and boarding school for boys aged 8 to 18 in the village of Slindon, near Arundel in West Sussex. The school is based at Slindon House, within the South Downs National Park, on a 14-acre site set in National Trust grounds with playing fields, woodland and a sensory garden. Slindon describes itself as an inclusive school for boys who learn best in a specialist setting, and classes have no more than 10 pupils.

Boys work towards GCSEs, with A Levels and vocational courses in the Sixth Form, and many leavers move on to further education colleges for higher-level BTEC qualifications leading to degrees.

Boarding at Slindon College

Boarding is offered to boys from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form, with full, weekly and flexi options. The boarding community is small, with boys mainly from the south of England and a small number from overseas, which allows staff to know each boarder well.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boarders live in one boarding house, divided by floor into junior and senior sections. Boys in Years 7 to 9 share dormitories of two to four, while those in Year 10 and above have their own study bedrooms. Seniors use the top-floor Family Room as their common room and juniors have the Snug with a kitchenette. A boarding team provides day-to-day pastoral care, with access to the school's wider support staff.

Boarding Life

Activities run every evening, from badminton, swimming, tennis and mountain biking to baking, film nights, drone flying and metal detecting. Older boarders can join a technical youth theatre run with Chichester Festival Youth Theatre. Regular outings include a weekly supermarket trip and walks in the South Downs, local woodland and on nearby beaches, and Sixth Form boarders have a weekly independent trip to Chichester. Facilities include two sports halls, an outdoor heated pool and a mountain bike track.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Specialist dyslexia teachers, speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and learning support assistants work with class teachers to support boys with dyslexia, dyspraxia, autism, ADHD and social anxiety, and one-to-one literacy and numeracy support is available. The Good Schools Guide also records provision for moderate learning difficulties and dyscalculia.

Every international boarder at Slindon College must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at Slindon College

Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Slindon College website.

Information for International Students and Parents

Slindon College accepts international boys as boarders from Year 7, at age 11, through to the Sixth Form, with GCSEs in Years 10 and 11 followed by A Levels or vocational courses. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. The school is around 50 minutes by road from London Gatwick Airport, and nearby Barnham station has direct trains to London Victoria. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

Slindon College does not publish minimum English levels for international applicants. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Boys who need English as an Additional Language receive intensive English tuition, one to one or in small groups, as part of the learning support programme.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Slindon College is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, and boarding staff keep passports and important documents safe during term, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

Slindon College requires every overseas pupil to have a guardian living in the UK, arranged before the boy arrives. The guardian must be reachable in an emergency, act on behalf of parents and look after the pupil at weekends away from school, half terms and other closures. The school points families towards AEGIS accredited guardianship organisations.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Slindon College boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays.

Frequently Asked Questions

UK boarding schools generally require international students under 18 to have a UK-based guardian, and British Guardianship confirms Slindon College's specific requirements as part of your application. The guardian acts on behalf of parents in the UK, is the school's point of contact in an emergency and looks after the student whenever they cannot be at school. We provide this as an AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship service.

Whenever your child cannot stay at Slindon College, for example during half terms, exeats or holidays when boarding houses close, they stay with one of our vetted host families. Every host family is visited in their home, provides professional and personal references and holds an Enhanced DBS check for all household members aged 16 and over. British Guardianship remains your child's educational guardian throughout every stay.

We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Slindon College is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.

Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Slindon College may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
