Learn More →Tettenhall College is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in the village of Tettenhall, on the western edge of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, for pupils aged 2 to 18. The Preparatory School, which runs from Nursery to Year 6, the Senior School and the Sixth Form share 33-acre grounds. Founded in 1863, the college lies around 40 minutes by road from Birmingham Airport.
Pupils take GCSEs in the Senior School and A Levels in the Sixth Form, where the Extended Project Qualification is also offered. International students aged 15 to 16 can follow a one-year International GCSE programme leading to up to six iGCSEs, which meets the minimum academic requirement for A Level study.
Boarding is available from age 10 to 18, and families can choose full, weekly or flexi boarding. International students form a small part of the boarding community, and full boarders stay in school seven days a week, joining the weekend trips and activities.
Boys board in School House, refurbished in 2022, which has single and twin rooms, junior dormitories, a kitchen and a common room with a games area and cinema zone. The most senior boarders can live in the adjoining Studies, a renovated block of single and twin rooms. Girls board in Thorneycroft House, where study bedrooms are single or shared and a Girls' House Parent leads a team of boarding tutors. Younger pupils share in rooms of up to four, while Sixth Formers can often have a single room.
After lessons, boarders have activities and tea, then an hour of supervised prep from 6.30pm, followed by a house meeting and house activities until 9pm. The weekend programme mixes excursions and local outings with social time and study, and the houses hold their own events, such as an international food festival.
The learning support team assesses pupils individually and provides in-class help, small-group sessions and Individual Pupil Plans. The school holds the British Dyslexia Association's Dyslexia Friendly Quality Mark and works with outside agencies, including for speech and language support. English as an Additional Language is taught as a specialist subject throughout the Senior School.

Tettenhall College accepts international boarders from age 10 through to the Sixth Form. Senior School entry is usually in Years 7 to 9, international students aged 15 can join the one-year International GCSE programme, and Year 12 is the entry point for A Level courses. The college also welcomes students who want to spend a shorter period in a British school to improve their English and gain wider experience, and pupils from Europe often take a year out there. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
Tettenhall College does not publish minimum English levels for most year groups. The one-year International GCSE programme requires CEFR B2 or equivalent. For other entry points, English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Pupils whose first language is not English can take English as an Additional Language as a specialist subject in the Senior School, and students on the International GCSE programme also join non-examined classes alongside British pupils.
