Learn More →The National Mathematics and Science College is an independent, co-educational boarding and day college in Coventry, Warwickshire, specialising in science, technology, engineering and mathematics for students aged 15 to 19. Its teaching centre and residence are on Westwood Way, and the college opened in 2016 as a standalone STEM college.
The main route is a two-year A Level programme in which every student takes Mathematics with up to three further subjects from Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Economics, Further Mathematics, Physics and Psychology. A one-year Pre-A Level programme prepares non-native English speakers for the A Level course, a one-year Fast Track A Level suits students who have finished upper secondary study abroad, and the college also runs a two-year IGCSE programme and a Preparation for Medicine programme.
More than 100 students board, from around 30 nationalities, and almost all of them are full boarders who stay at college at weekends. Weekly boarding from Monday to Friday is also available. The residence stays open during half-term breaks, which gives international students continuity through each term.
Boarders live in a modern residence a short walk from the teaching centre. Every student has a single en-suite study bedroom with a double bed, desk and wifi, and bedding and towels are changed weekly. Each floor has a kitchen and games room, and the building includes quiet study areas, a gym and the college restaurant. A member of the boarding team is on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
An enrichment programme of clubs, societies and activities runs during the college day and at weekends. Students use the nearby Xcel Leisure Centre, can join sports clubs and local teams, and take part in trips, Olympiad competitions and university visits, including STEM activity days at the University of Warwick.
Each student belongs to a small tutor group that meets regularly. Mild special educational needs are supported mainly within lessons, with one-to-one help arranged where needed. A qualified counsellor is available for online sessions, two nurses oversee health care, and boarders are registered with a local NHS GP.

Entry is selective, and successful applicants usually hold strong grades in the subjects they plan to study. English is assessed as part of the application through a grammar test and a written task. The Fast Track A Level course requires IELTS 6.5, and its timetable includes daily English lessons and IELTS preparation. The Pre-A Level programme is designed for non-native speakers, combining sciences and mathematics with intensive English, and students sit Cambridge PET, FCE or IELTS during the year. For international boarders, English language tuition and IELTS support are included where required, and IGCSE students take either First Language English or English as an Additional Language.
