Learn More →Tring Park School for the Performing Arts is an independent, co-educational specialist day and boarding school in Tring, Hertfordshire, for pupils aged 7 to 19. Its origins lie in dance schools founded by Olive Ripman and Grace Cone from around 1919, and since 1945 it has occupied the Rothschild mansion at Tring Park, set in around 17 acres.
Every pupil combines academic study with vocational training. From Year 7 pupils specialise in Dance or Performance Foundation, GCSEs are taken in Years 10 and 11, and the Sixth Form offers Dance, Musical Theatre, Acting and Commercial Music alongside A Levels, with the three-year Dance course leading to a Trinity diploma.
Around 60 per cent of pupils board, in a school of up to 360 pupils with more than 200 boarding places. Boarding runs from Year 6 to the end of the Sixth Form, and boarders stay at school at weekends. Boarders come from countries including China, Japan, India, the UAE, Kenya, the USA and Spain.
There are three boarding houses. Mansion House, in the historic main building, is home to girls up to Year 11, with younger pupils in shared rooms and older girls in singles or doubles. Elizabeth House, opened in 2019 with 72 bedrooms, houses many Sixth Form girls, and Clock House is home to all boy boarders and some Sixth Form girls. Each house is led by houseparents with residential and non-residential pastoral staff.
Vocational classes and academic lessons fill the weekday, with Sixth Form vocational training continuing until 6.30pm. Boarders have a programme of weekend activities and trips, and younger boarders attend a monthly Sunday church service. Sixth Formers have more freedom in the evenings and at weekends, and an independent listener visits in the evenings.
Learning Support offers classroom adjustments, focused academic help and assessment for exam access arrangements. Pastoral care comes from houseparents and personal tutors, with a Pupil Mentor for each new pupil. The Medical Centre is open on weekdays with on-call cover at weekends, and its nurses work with counsellors and physiotherapists.

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Pupils whose first language is not English have their English assessed on arrival and may receive timetabled EAL lessons, usually one-to-one with specialist teachers for one to two hours a week, charged separately. Pupils in Years 10 and 11 may take IGCSE English as a Second Language, and Sixth Formers may sit IELTS.
Overseas students will usually need a Child Student visa. Tring Park School for the Performing Arts is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies once it has checked the student's passport and any previous UK visas, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Parents living outside the UK must appoint a UK education guardian for their child, whatever the pupil's age. Unless the guardian is a relative or close family friend, the school asks parents to use a reputable guardianship organisation, preferably an AEGIS member. The guardian looks after the pupil at half terms and exeats or when unwell.
