Learn More →Warminster School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school for pupils aged 2 to 18 in Warminster, Wiltshire, on the edge of Salisbury Plain. With more than 300 years of history, it occupies a 60-acre campus with a Nursery, Pre-Prep and Prep School for ages 2 to 11, a Senior School for ages 11 to 16 and a Sixth Form. London is a little under two hours away by train.
Senior pupils follow a broad curriculum before GCSEs in Years 10 and 11. Sixth Formers choose A Levels, Cambridge Technical qualifications or a mix of both, and may add the Extended Project Qualification. There is no Saturday school, and boarders follow a structured activity programme instead.
Full boarding is offered from Year 7, alongside weekly boarding, and pupils in Years 5 and 6 can flexi board. The boarding community is small and international, with pupils from countries including China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Italy and Germany as well as the UK. A short stay programme in the summer term also lets international students try boarding for a few weeks.
Girls board in Ivy House and boys in St Boniface, while Sixth Formers live in Stratton, a co-educational house with separate sleeping wings and shared kitchen and common room areas laid out like a university hall of residence. In St Boniface, rooms range from four-bed dormitories to single rooms, with modern bathrooms and two common rooms. Each house has a Housemaster or Housemistress, assistants and a House Matron.
Evenings include prep, with a dedicated study room in Stratton, and house events such as quiz nights, pizza nights and barbecues. The school runs activities and trips throughout the year, including at weekends, with outings to Longleat, Go Ape, ice skating, aqua parks and the coast, and Sixth Formers help choose trips to places such as Bath and Windsor.
The Learning Support department provides literacy, numeracy and study skills programmes, in-class support, diagnostic assessment, exam access arrangements and speech and language therapy from an external practitioner. Form tutors and Heads of House oversee welfare, supported by a school nurse, school doctors and a counsellor.

Warminster School accepts international boarders from Year 7 (age 11) to the Sixth Form, with entry in Years 7 to 10 and the Lower Sixth. Some international students start with a one-year GCSE course before the Sixth Form. Most students join in September. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. EAL tuition is taught in groups of no more than eight, or six in the Sixth Form. Students prepare for the International GCSE in English as a Second Language in Year 11 (broadly CEFR B2) and for IELTS.
Students staying longer than six months usually need a Child Student visa. Warminster School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies and helps with supporting documents, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Warminster requires every pupil whose parents live outside the UK, or do not hold settled status, to have a UK educational guardian. A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Warminster School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
