Learn More →Woldingham School is an independent Catholic day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18, set in around 700 acres of countryside at Marden Park, Woldingham, in Surrey. Founded in 1842 and part of the international Sacred Heart network of schools, it welcomes students of all faiths and none. Woldingham station adjoins the grounds, with central London about 30 minutes away by train.
Students follow a broad curriculum to GCSE before moving into the Sixth Form, where they choose from 26 A Level subjects, usually taking three, and can add the Extended Project Qualification. A Higher Education team guides every Sixth Former, including advice on universities overseas.
More than 250 girls board, around 120 of them full time, and international boarders come from over 30 countries. Full boarding is offered from Year 7, alongside weekly boarding of up to five nights and flexi boarding for day students. Most full boarders remain in school at weekends.
Boarders live in year groups. Full and weekly boarders in Years 7 to 9 share rooms for three or four in Marden House. In Main House, each girl in Years 10 and 11 has an individual study bedroom with a sink. Lower Sixth boarders have study bedrooms with shared bathrooms in Berwick House, and Upper Sixth boarders have en-suite study bedrooms in Shanley House. Each year group has a Head of Year, a housemistress, an assistant housemistress and a resident tutor, and house staff are available around the clock.
Friday evenings bring films, games and pizza nights for younger girls, Saturdays centre on sport, and excursions range from historic sites and watersports to cinema and bowling. Older girls may visit Oxted in small groups, Sixth Formers can travel to London, and Sundays are quieter, with Mass, swimming and time in the grounds.
Learning support is mainly delivered in class, with small-group or individual lessons where needed, for needs including dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism, speech and language needs, and sensory or physical impairments. Timetabled wellbeing lessons, a counselling team and a 24-hour nurse-led health centre support students' welfare.

Woldingham School admits girls at 11, 13 and 16, with Year 7, Year 9 and Year 12 the usual entry points and some flexibility in other year groups. For international students, the school also runs a one-year pre-A Level programme in Year 11, in which able students take a set of GCSEs before progressing to A Levels. Most international students join in September. Students from more than 40 nationalities attend the school, which aims for a balance of British and international girls in every class and boarding house. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
Woldingham does not publish minimum CEFR or IELTS levels by year of entry. International applicants take an online English as an Additional Language test as part of their assessment, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Once enrolled, students receive EAL support so that their English develops alongside their academic subjects.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Woldingham School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Parents who live overseas must appoint a UK-resident guardian to act in loco parentis. The guardian must speak English, be at least 25 years old and live within one hour's travel of the school, and any guardian who is not a relative or close family friend must be AEGIS accredited. The school does not appoint guardians itself.
