Learn More →Worth School is an independent, co-educational Catholic day and boarding school for pupils aged 11 to 18 at Turners Hill, West Sussex, on the 500-acre Paddockhurst estate between London and Brighton. The Senior School was founded in 1959 by the Benedictine monks of Worth Abbey, and the school welcomes pupils of all faiths or none. It has been fully co-educational since 2012.
Pupils follow GCSE and IGCSE courses from Year 10, and a one-year Pre-IB programme prepares Year 11 entrants for the Sixth Form. Sixth Formers choose between the International Baccalaureate Diploma, offered since 2002, and A Levels.
Worth describes itself as a seven-day-a-week full boarding school, and around half of pupils in the senior years board. Boarding begins in Year 9, as Years 7 and 8 are day pupils. Families choose full boarding or, subject to availability, flexi boarding from Year 9; weekly boarding is not offered. About a quarter of pupils come from overseas, mainly Western Europe, with smaller numbers from Central and South America and Asia.
There are four boarding houses. St Mary's is home to more than 80 girls from Year 9 to Year 13, with en-suite bedrooms throughout. Boys board in Rutherford, a Victorian-style former manor house and the school's oldest building, and in Gervase and St Bede's, which serve older boys and Sixth Formers. Pupils in Years 9 to 11 share rooms of two to four, while Sixth Formers usually have single study bedrooms. Each house has a Housemaster or Housemistress, a deputy, matrons, boarding tutors and a chaplain.
More than 100 activities and clubs run weekly, and evening enrichment includes orchestra, jazz band, chamber choir, basketball and fitness training. At weekends a programme of activities, masterclasses, revision classes and sport runs alongside a Sunday trips programme. Some weekends are closed, with all boarders in school, and most boarders stay in on open weekends too.
Every pupil meets a personal tutor at least twice a week. Specialist staff provide small-group and one-to-one learning enhancement for mild learning needs. The medical department offers care around the clock in term time, and a professional counsellor and independent listeners support wellbeing.

Because boarding starts in Year 9, international boarders usually join Worth School at 13+, with occasional places at 14+, a one-year Pre-IB course for a small number of 15+ entrants, and Sixth Form entry at 16+. Most students start in September, and international students can also join for one or two terms. Worth is a short drive from London Gatwick Airport, and Three Bridges railway station, around four miles away, links the area with London. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. The school does not publish minimum English scores, and EAL support is available for students who need it.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Worth School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
