Learn More →Health, rehabilitation and sport are the specialist focus of Health Sciences University. The institution opened its doors in 1965 under the name Anglo-European College of Chiropractic, providing Europe's first chiropractic training programme. Taught degree awarding powers came in 2017, after which it was known as AECC University College. The present name was adopted in 2024, when the University College of Osteopathy also joined, and a 2026 merger brought in the College of Integrated Chinese Medicine, which now operates as CICM Acupuncture.
The principal campus lies close to the coast at Boscombe in Bournemouth. In central London, a site on Borough High Street houses the UCO School of Osteopathy, while acupuncture is taught in Reading. Programmes span chiropractic and osteopathy, physiotherapy, podiatry, occupational therapy, psychology, radiography and medical imaging, speech and language therapy, sport and exercise science, dietetics, acupuncture and healthcare management. Clinical work is at the core of the curriculum, with supervised experience gained in the Integrated Rehabilitation Centre and in a large chiropractic clinic that is open to the public and records tens of thousands of patient contacts a year. By university standards, the student body is small.
Around 30 per cent of Health Sciences University's students come from overseas. Applicants from outside the UK can get advice from the Student Services team on preparing for study, housing and settling in. The usual undergraduate requirement is IELTS 6.0 overall with a minimum of 5.5 in every component, while many master's programmes set 7.0 overall and no less than 6.0 per component; each course page confirms the exact level. For applicants who would gain from an extra preparatory year, some degrees, Sport Rehabilitation in Bournemouth among them, include an integrated foundation year.
When every offer condition has been satisfied, the university issues a CAS, which may be assigned as early as six months before the course begins. Its visa guidance deals with the Immigration Health Surcharge, financial evidence and what students should bring when they enrol. Student Services also helps new students with housing, from Bournemouth halls provided in partnership with the Lulworth Student Company to advice on renting privately in Bournemouth or London. Eligible international undergraduates can receive a Global Partnership Scholarship that lowers first-year tuition, and qualifying graduates may make a Graduate Route application.
Intake information is provided as a general guide. Start dates vary between universities and courses, and not every course is offered at every intake. Please follow the UCAS deadlines for undergraduate applications and check the latest dates on the official Health Sciences University website.
UK universities typically require international students who are under 18 when they enrol to have a UK-based nominated guardian in place. The guardian acts on behalf of the parents while the student is a minor, serving as the university's point of contact in an emergency, supporting the student's welfare and providing a trusted adult close by. British Guardianship provides this as a fully accredited university guardianship service.
We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Health Sciences University is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
Our UK university guardianship services for Health Sciences University start from £250 per term. We also offer premium and bespoke packages, and with our flexible guardianship services you only pay for the services you need. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
No. Once your child turns 18, the nominated guardian requirement no longer applies and guardianship services are no longer needed. This is why our university guardianship is priced per term, so you only pay until your child's 18th birthday.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to respond quickly in an emergency. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day, act as the university's emergency contact until the student turns 18, and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Health Sciences University may also ask for the guardian's details at enrolment and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS-accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
