Learn More →The origins of Nottingham Trent University go back to 1843 and the opening of the Nottingham Government School of Design, one of the first schools of design in the country. The institution subsequently became Trent Polytechnic, was later renamed Nottingham Polytechnic and achieved university status in 1992. Its student population of around 35,000 makes it one of the UK's largest universities. The City Campus lies in the centre of Nottingham, while the Clifton Campus, south of the city, focuses on science and sport. Other sites include the rural Brackenhurst estate close to Southwell, a London base in Whitechapel and NTU Mansfield, which is operated jointly with a local college.
Scientific, environmental, creative and professional disciplines are taught across seven schools. These include Nottingham Law School, the Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies and the School of Art & Design, which descends directly from the 1843 school. Nottingham Business School is triple accredited by AACSB, AMBA and EQUIS. The Guardian and Times Higher Education have both named NTU University of the Year.
Throughout their studies, international students can seek advice from NTU's International Student Support team on life in the UK and associated issues. Those who do not yet satisfy the entry requirements for a degree may study at Nottingham Trent International College (NTIC), which Kaplan International runs on the City Campus. NTIC offers pre-master's courses, an extended programme combining English and skills, International Year One in business or computing, which allows entry into year two of a degree, and foundation certificates in 12 subject areas that progress to bachelor's degrees at NTU. For offer holders who must raise their English level, it also runs Pre-sessional English for Academic Purposes at the City Campus, with courses of six to 15 weeks.
Subject to its published conditions, NTU guarantees international students accommodation in Nottingham throughout the first year of their degree, and pre-sessional students can take flexible contracts. Arriving ahead of the course start is recommended so that students can join induction activities. International scholarships cover excellence, country-specific and merit-based awards, and for most of them a competitive application is required. The Graduate Route is available to graduates who meet its eligibility conditions.
Intake information is provided as a general guide. Start dates vary between universities and courses, and not every course is offered at every intake. Please follow the UCAS deadlines for undergraduate applications and check the latest dates on the official Nottingham Trent University website.
UK universities typically require international students who are under 18 when they enrol to have a UK-based nominated guardian in place. The guardian acts on behalf of the parents while the student is a minor, serving as the university's point of contact in an emergency, supporting the student's welfare and providing a trusted adult close by. British Guardianship provides this as a fully accredited university guardianship service.
We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Nottingham Trent University is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
Our UK university guardianship services for Nottingham Trent University start from £250 per term. We also offer premium and bespoke packages, and with our flexible guardianship services you only pay for the services you need. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
No. Once your child turns 18, the nominated guardian requirement no longer applies and guardianship services are no longer needed. This is why our university guardianship is priced per term, so you only pay until your child's 18th birthday.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to respond quickly in an emergency. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day, act as the university's emergency contact until the student turns 18, and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Nottingham Trent University may also ask for the guardian's details at enrolment and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS-accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
