Bosworth Independent School Overview

Bosworth Independent School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Northampton, Northamptonshire, for students aged 11 to 19. Founded in 1977 as a small tutorial college, it changed its name from Bosworth Independent College in 2023 and is part of CATS Global Schools, an international group of independent schools and colleges. Teaching is based in the Newton Building on St George's Avenue, opposite the Racecourse parkland, with Bosworth Hall nearby for dining and science.

The curriculum runs from a Years 7 to 9 programme through two-year and one-year GCSE courses to A Levels, alongside English-focused preparation programmes and a University Foundation Programme. Classes average around 12 students.

Boarders make up a large proportion of the student body, and students come from more than 30 nationalities. Full and weekly boarding are offered, and the houses stay open over half-term holidays. International students can also join for a few weeks or for one or two terms through the High School Experience programme.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Students live in six supervised, single-sex houses within walking distance of the main buildings, allocated by gender, age and course. Limetrees and Victoria House are for girls aged 11 to 18, Calderfield, Farthings and St George's for boys of the same age, and Poplars for students aged 18 and over. Rooms are singles and twins, with many en-suite rooms in Limetrees, and every house has a common room, kitchen and laundry, with House Parents providing round-the-clock care.

Boarding Life

Meals are served in Bosworth Hall, with brunch and dinner at weekends. Weekday evenings include a house activity or prep session followed by quieter study time, and younger students hand in devices overnight. House Parents run evening and weekend activities, from sport and creative workshops to themed dinners and trips to Oxford, Cambridge and London.

Academic and Pastoral Support

A SENDCo oversees support for additional needs, including specialist help for dyslexia, Individual Learning Plans and exam access arrangements. A trained counsellor is available free of charge, a registered nurse is on site during the week, and older students receive guidance on university applications, including Oxbridge and medicine preparation.

  • One-year fast-track GCSE (age 15 and over): IELTS 5.0

Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

The school asks every Child Student to have an emergency contact in the UK and allows parents to nominate a UK guardian, who must be British or settled in the UK, for short absences outside term time. Boarding houses stay open at half term but close over Christmas.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Bosworth Independent School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during exeats and holidays.

Short-Term Stays and Exchange Placements

Through the High School Experience, students in Years 7 to 10 can board for one to six weeks, while term-based places in Year 10 GCSE, Pre-A Level and Year 12 A Level last one or two terms, each with a personal tutor and a student buddy. Families considering a shorter placement can explore our Student Exchange Programme and short stay guardianship.
