Bournemouth Collegiate School Overview

Bournemouth Collegiate School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Bournemouth, Dorset, educating pupils from 3 to 18 years across two sites. The Prep School is in Lower Parkstone, Poole, while the Senior School, Sixth Form and both boarding houses share the Southbourne campus, a short walk from the beach. The school traces its roots to 1899, took its present name in 2009 when Wentworth College merged with Uplands School, and is part of CATS Global Schools, an international group of independent schools and colleges.

Boarding is offered from Year 7. Pupils take GCSEs and IGCSEs, then A Levels, BTECs or a mix in the Sixth Form, and international pupils can join GCSE and A Level Accelerator programmes combining intensive English with subject preparation.

Boarding at Bournemouth Collegiate School

Bournemouth Collegiate School offers full boarding for international students; current boarder numbers are available on request. Full boarders stay at weekends without fixed exeats, and weekly, flexi and day boarding are also offered. English is an additional language for between a fifth and a quarter of pupils.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Girls in Years 7 to 13 board on the upper floor of the historic main building. Boys in Years 7 to 13 live in a house beside the Sports Hall, with the Sixth Form on the top floor and resident staff in flats. Younger boarders share rooms, older pupils have single or double rooms, and some Year 13 rooms are en-suite. House Parents, a Matron and Boarding Assistants staff the houses, and each new boarder has a buddy.

Boarding Life

Evenings bring supper, supervised prep and an activity. The weekly programme includes themed evenings, a sports night and Friday film nights. Weekends combine free time with outings to water parks, theme parks and the beach, and boarders use the pool, gym and sports hall.

Academic and Pastoral Support

The Learning Plus department provides specialist teaching for pupils with specific learning needs, alongside additional lessons and assessments for exam access arrangements. Provision covers specific learning difficulties such as dyslexia and dyspraxia, moderate learning difficulties, social, emotional and mental health needs and visual impairment. Daily tutor contact, a School Counsellor, an Independent Listener and qualified nurses support pupils' wellbeing.

Every international boarder at Bournemouth Collegiate School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Child Student Visa

Bournemouth Collegiate School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, and its admissions team issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) once a place is confirmed, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

Where both parents live overseas, the school requires a UK-resident adult to be appointed as guardian before the pupil starts. The guardian must be able to come to the school at short notice and, under the school's visa guidance, should ideally live within two hours by car. Both boarding houses close at half terms and holidays, so boarders need UK accommodation or travel home at those times.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Bournemouth Collegiate School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.
