Learn More →Farleigh School is an independent, co-educational Catholic prep school for boys and girls aged 2 to 13 at Red Rice, near Andover in Hampshire. It takes day pupils and boarders, and while the Catholic faith shapes its chapel life and values, it welcomes families of all denominations and none. The Georgian main house stands in 70 acres of parkland just off the A303.
In the Prep School, teaching follows the Key Stage 2 curriculum and then builds towards Common Entrance and senior school pre-tests for entry at 13. Boarding is available from Year 3, at age 7, until pupils leave at the end of Year 8.
More than 100 pupils board, and inspectors have noted the strong contribution boarding makes to the character of the school. Full, weekly and flexi boarding are all offered from Year 3, with a good mix of each. Boarders come from armed forces, diplomatic and overseas families.
The co-educational Junior Boarding House, within the main house, is home to boys and girls in Years 3 to 6, who sleep in large, light dormitories. Girls in Years 7 and 8 board in St Theresa's, while boys move to St Edward's in Year 7 and St Ignatius' in Year 8, where pupils have a little more privacy. Each boarding area has its own common room, and every house is run by a House Parent responsible for its routine and for each boarder's welfare.
On weekday evenings boarders complete 45 minutes of supervised prep, then choose activities such as swimming, water polo, tennis, football, uni-hockey and art and craft. Themed dinner nights are held twice a term. At weekends boarders who stay in enjoy cooking competitions, barbecues, talent shows and a play staged in a single day, with outings to the theatre and bowling. Boarders can email home daily, and parents receive a weekly news email.
The Learning Support Department draws up an individual programme for each child from internal and external assessments. Provision covers dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, ADHD, autism and speech, language and communication needs, with input from educational psychologists and speech and occupational therapists where needed.

Farleigh School accepts boarders from Year 3, at age 7, through to Year 8, at age 12, the final year before pupils transfer to senior school at 13. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. Because the school prepares pupils for Common Entrance and senior school pre-tests, a place at Farleigh can serve international families as a first step into British boarding before moving on to a senior school. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. The Independent Schools Inspectorate has found that pupils with English as an additional language make good progress at the school, and any extra help needed is agreed individually.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Farleigh School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, which allows it to sponsor international pupils of prep school age, and the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
UK boarding schools generally require international boarders under 18 to have a UK guardian, and British Guardianship confirms each school's specific requirements as part of placement. For pupils as young as 7, a guardian within easy reach of Andover is especially important for exeat weekends, half terms, medical appointments and travel to and from the airport.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Farleigh School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
