King's High School Overview

King's High School is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18 in Warwick, Warwickshire. Founded in 1879, it moved in 2019 from the town centre into a purpose-built school on the 55-acre campus it shares with Warwick School and Warwick Prep School. It is part of the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation, a group of independent schools in Warwick and Leamington Spa.

Girls follow a broad curriculum to GCSE in Years 10 and 11, then study A Levels in the Sixth Form, where some subjects are taught jointly with Warwick School. The school describes its approach as single-sex teaching combined with co-educational activities, and girls from Year 9 join the boys for a Friday afternoon activities programme.

Boarding at King's High School

Boarding is open to girls from Year 9 to the Sixth Form. Full boarding, seven nights a week with all meals, is the most popular option, alongside weekly boarding, flexi boarding of one to three nights and occasional nights. The girls' house is deliberately small, giving boarders a close, family-sized community.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Girls board in Way House, a refurbished heritage building on site with space for 12 boarders. Bedrooms are spacious doubles, and there is a large sitting room and a boarders' kitchen. Boarders eat breakfast and supper with the whole Foundation boarding community in the Warwick School dining room and have lunch at King's High. A House Parent is on duty every day, supported by an assistant, boarding supervisors, a housekeeper and boarding tutors.

Boarding Life

Teaching staff regularly supervise the house in the evenings and at weekends and join boarders on trips and activities. Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon and Birmingham are within easy reach for weekend outings, and boarders can take part in a co-curricular programme of more than 260 weekly activities.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Boost, the school's academic support programme, offers one-to-one tutorials, small-group courses and drop-in sessions, with needs identified through assessments in Year 7. The Good Schools Guide notes support for dyslexia, processing difficulties and anxiety. Boarders have access to a medical centre with a qualified nurse and are registered with a local GP.

Every international boarder at King's High School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at King's High School

Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official King's High School website.

Information for International Students and Parents

King's High School welcomes international girls from Year 9 (age 13), ahead of GCSE courses in Years 10 and 11, and into the Sixth Form at 16. Most students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. Overseas students benefit from small classes, close academic support and help from tutors with subject choices and study skills. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. King's High does not publish a minimum IELTS or CEFR level. English language support is available for overseas girls who need help with written and spoken English, both in the senior years and in the Sixth Form.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. King's High School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register through the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

King's High School requires all international pupils to have a UK-based guardian who can host them in an emergency and during holidays. The school does not recommend individual guardians, and families without a suitable relative or friend in the UK can use a guardianship agency.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for King's High School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.

Frequently Asked Questions

UK boarding schools generally require international students under 18 to have a UK-based guardian, and British Guardianship confirms King's High School's specific requirements as part of your application. The guardian acts on behalf of parents in the UK, is the school's point of contact in an emergency and looks after the student whenever they cannot be at school. We provide this as an AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship service.

Whenever your child cannot stay at King's High School, for example during half terms, exeats or holidays when boarding houses close, they stay with one of our vetted host families. Every host family is visited in their home, provides professional and personal references and holds an Enhanced DBS check for all household members aged 16 and over. British Guardianship remains your child's educational guardian throughout every stay.

We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with King's High School is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.

Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. King's High School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
