Warwick School Overview

Warwick School is an independent day and boarding school for boys aged 11 to 18 on a 55-acre campus in Warwick, Warwickshire. Believed to have been founded in 914, it is one of the oldest schools in the country, and it is part of the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation, which also runs King's High School for girls on the same campus. London is around 90 minutes away.

The school has around 1,000 pupils, more than 300 of them in the Sixth Form. Boys take GCSEs in Years 10 and 11 and then choose from a broad range of A Levels, with the Extended Project Qualification as an option.

Boarding at Warwick School

Around 60 boys board, most of them international students from Hong Kong and China, alongside a growing number of UK boarders. Full boarding is the most popular option, with weekly, flexi and occasional boarding also available. About three quarters of boarders are in the Sixth Form, forming a small community within a large day school.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boarders live in School House, which has space for 60 boys and was refurbished in 2023. Boys in Years 9 to 11 share rooms of two to four, Year 12 boarders have twin rooms and every Year 13 boarder has a single room, with prefects in their own wing with a kitchen and common room. House parents, pastoral tutors and matrons look after the boys.

Boarding Life

New boarders begin with an induction in September, including tours of Warwick and Leamington Spa with boarding buddies. Guided routines cover homework, meals and bedtimes. Weekends include bowling, go-karting and day trips such as Alton Towers, with occasional residential trips in the UK and abroad. Boarders use the pool and sports hall, field football and basketball teams against other boarding schools, and celebrate festivals such as Chinese New Year.

Academic and Pastoral Support

The Academic Support department provides SEND support, including specialist social, emotional and mental health support, and the Good Schools Guide reports support for dyslexia, autism and ADHD. An EAL Co-ordinator monitors international pupils' progress. A medical centre staffed by nurses supports boarders, who are registered with a local GP.

Every international boarder at Warwick School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at Warwick School

Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Warwick School website.

Information for International Students and Parents

Warwick School accepts international boarders at 13 (Year 9), at 14 (Year 10) to begin GCSE courses, and at 16 for A Levels in the Sixth Form. Year 9 is the youngest year group in the boarding house, and boys normally join in September. Applications are welcome from boys of all nationalities. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Warwick School is academically selective and expects international boarders to have a high standard of spoken and written English to manage the workload. Its EAL Co-ordinator works with tutors and teachers to help boys use English confidently across the curriculum and, where needed, meet the English requirements of British universities.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Warwick School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register through the Warwick Independent Schools Foundation and can issue the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies to boarding pupils, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

Warwick School requires every international pupil to have a UK-based guardian, ideally living near the school, who can support the boy in an emergency and look after him during holidays. Families without a suitable guardian are directed to an AEGIS accredited guardianship agency.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Warwick School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.

We provide this as an AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship service.

Whenever your child cannot stay at Warwick School, for example during half terms, exeats or holidays when boarding houses close, they stay with one of our vetted host families. British Guardianship remains your child's educational guardian throughout every stay.

We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Warwick School is finalised. A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Warwick School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
