The Senior School in Sedbergh educates around 600 pupils aged 13 to 18, while Sedbergh Prep School takes children aged 3 to 13 on an 80-acre campus at Casterton, near Kirkby Lonsdale. Founded in 1525, the school is part of the Sedbergh Schools Group.
Prep pupils who choose their Sedbergh house in Years 6 and 7 are guaranteed a Year 9 place at the Senior School. Senior pupils begin with the Inspire programme before around 10 GCSEs, and the Sixth Form of about 270 students offers 25 A Level subjects alongside BTEC courses.
The Senior School remains fully boarding: around 98% of pupils board, almost all of them full time, and school life runs seven days a week. At the Prep, boarding starts at age 8 and around 70 pupils board, with full boarding offered alongside weekly, tri and flexi options. Pupils from more than 30 nationalities have studied across the two schools, and short-term immersion places are offered at both.
Senior boarders live in nine houses, six for boys and three for girls, each with a resident Housemaster or Housemistress, an assistant, tutors and a matron. Younger pupils share bedrooms and Year 13 students have single rooms. Prep boarders live in one co-educational house with five resident staff.
Senior weekday evenings begin with house prayers and two hours of supervised prep. Saturday lessons are followed by fixtures and evening socials, Sundays include chapel, expeditions and house outings, and the school stays open over exeat weekends. Prep boarders have supper, prep and evening activities, and Weekend Adventures are open to every pupil who boards the night before.
Learning Support at the Senior School works with pupils who have special educational needs, including dyslexia, through small-group lessons in Years 9 to 11 and one-to-one help in the Sixth Form. The Prep's SEND department offers in-class, small-group and individual support. Pastoral care is shared by house staff, tutors, Year Heads and the chaplaincy.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Sedbergh School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
