Learn More →St John's Beaumont School is an independent Roman Catholic day and boarding preparatory school in Old Windsor, Berkshire, for pupils aged 3 to 13. Its single campus of around 70 acres sits beside Windsor Great Park. The school has a Jesuit ethos and a history going back to 1888. It educated only boys for most of that time and began admitting girls in September 2023, with co-education phased up through the year groups.
Admission is academically non-selective, teaching follows the High Performance Learning framework, and most classes have no more than 16 pupils. Year 8 pupils are prepared for senior school entry and scholarships, and leavers move on to schools such as Eton College, Harrow, Winchester College, Stonyhurst and Wellington College.
Boarding is offered from age 7 as full, weekly or flexi boarding. There are around 30 boarders, and about half are full boarders whose families live overseas, so a core group stays in school at weekends. Boarding has traditionally been for boys, and the school now presents it as open to boys and girls.
Boarders are grouped by age in two dormitories, Morse for younger children and Southwell for older boarders, in modernised original buildings. Each boarder has a personal cubicle for sleeping, studying and relaxing. Non-teaching boarding parents are on duty outside school hours and overnight, alongside a residential matron, and older boarders mentor younger ones.
After lessons, boarders have a common room with a pool table, air hockey and video games, and use of the swimming pool, climbing wall, sports hall and gym. Phones are kept in locked charging cabinets, with set times for calling home. Saturdays have no lessons, Sundays bring outings such as bowling, museums and mini-golf, and full boarders follow a weekend programme that includes theme park trips and campfires in the school woods.
Boarding staff give pupils a confidential adult to talk to and help them manage homesickness, and two registered nurses provide round-the-clock medical cover. The school states that its support for special educational needs and English as an additional language is limited, so families should discuss individual needs with British Guardianship early.
Every international boarder at St John's Beaumont School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.
Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official St John's Beaumont School website.
St John's Beaumont School accepts boarders from age 7, and international pupils can join at points through the Prep School up to Year 8. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. The school does not publish minimum English levels by year group, and it describes its support for pupils with English as an additional language as limited. Applicants with little English, particularly those joining the upper years, should therefore discuss their options with British Guardianship at an early stage so that the placement suits their level.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. St John's Beaumont School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and can sponsor this visa for boarders who have accepted a place, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
St John's Beaumont School requires every boarder whose parents live overseas to have an English-speaking guardian resident in the UK. The guardian may be a relative or close family friend over the age of 25, or a professional guardianship organisation, and is responsible for travel at the start and end of each term, documents such as passports and visas, and the pupil's care during half terms, exeats and emergencies. The school does not recommend individual guardians and refers families to AEGIS and the BSA certified guardian scheme.
British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for St John's Beaumont School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. St John's Beaumont School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
