Teikyo School UK Overview

Teikyo School UK is an independent, co-educational Japanese high school for day pupils and boarders at Wexham in south Buckinghamshire, close to Slough and Windsor. It educates students aged 15 to 18 over the three years of Japanese senior high school, on a Green Belt campus around 20 to 30 minutes by road from Heathrow and about 40 minutes from central London. Opened in 1989, the school is part of the Teikyo Group, the Japanese education group behind Teikyo University, and serves Japanese-speaking students.

Lessons follow the Japanese national curriculum, and graduates receive a qualification equivalent to a Japanese senior high school diploma. Students choose a Global Studies, Football or Art course, and the school became the first Japanese overseas school to be authorised to offer the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Classes are small, and English is taught at several levels by British teachers alongside Japanese staff.

Boarding at Teikyo School UK

Teikyo School UK offers full boarding for international students; current boarder numbers are available on request. It is a small school, and most students live on site, while families based in London can choose day places served by a school bus.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boys and girls live in separate dormitory buildings, and every boarder has a private single room with a desk, bed and wardrobe. Rooms in the boys' dormitory have their own bathroom, while girls share a shower room with the neighbouring room. Each dormitory has a common room, and the boarding team of a head of boarding, teachers and dormitory staff look after students together.

Boarding Life

Supervised study runs from 7pm to 9pm, Monday to Thursday, when students can also work with a tutor or join IELTS classes. A student committee helps plan weekend outings to London museums, markets and Premier League matches. The campus has a grass football pitch, tennis courts, a sports hall and a heated indoor pool.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Learning support and pastoral care are provided; families should discuss individual needs with British Guardianship. A Japanese school counsellor with psychology qualifications visits each week, and minor illnesses are treated in the school health room.

International boarders at Teikyo School UK are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at Teikyo School UK

Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. Information for International Students and Parents

Teikyo School UK admits Japanese-speaking students into the first year of Japanese senior high school, at around age 15, with the main intake in April in line with the Japanese school year. Transfer students can join in April or in late September, and students whose parents live overseas are eligible to apply. Teaching is largely in Japanese, so fluency in Japanese is essential. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. English sits at the centre of the timetable, with level-based conversation classes taught by British teachers, grammar lessons with Japanese staff and a growing share of lessons taught in English as students move through the school. Boarders can also take private English lessons or IELTS preparation classes during evening study.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Teikyo School UK is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register through the Teikyo Foundation (UK), the charity that runs the school, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

Boarders at Teikyo School UK return home during the long holidays, so families need reliable arrangements for travel and for any time a student spends away from school.
