Learn More →Truro High School for Girls is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 3 to 18 in Truro, Cornwall. Founded in 1880 by Edward White Benson, then Bishop of Truro, it has a Church of England foundation and belongs to the Girls' Schools Association. The school is less than five minutes' walk from the city centre and about ten minutes by car from the nearest beaches.
Girls take GCSEs and then choose from more than 20 A Level subjects in the Sixth Form, including Latin and philosophy, with the Extended Project Qualification as an option. Boarding starts in Year 7, so international students can stay through to university entrance.
Boarders form a small community in a mainly day school and come from around a dozen countries, including Spain, Germany, Hong Kong, China, Nigeria and the USA. Full boarding is the main pattern, with weekly and flexi options. There are no exeat weekends: the houses close only for half terms and holidays, when a school minibus runs to and from London Heathrow.
Boarders live in two houses, Rashleigh and Dalvenie, with around 58 beds in total. Rooms are shared: girls up to Year 11 share with up to three others, Lower Sixth with two and Upper Sixth with one, and Rashleigh's rooms are en-suite. House Parents live alongside the houses with an Assistant House Parent, and new boarders have an induction before term.
After lessons boarders choose between clubs, prep or time in the house, and Senior School girls have two hours of evening prep after supper, with House Parents on hand to help. Activities run every weekend, and Sunday outings range from the Eden Project, St Michael's Mount and the Minack Theatre to surfing, kayaking and horse riding on the beach.
Specialist teachers support girls with dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia and other specific learning difficulties through literacy and numeracy programmes, and the Good Schools Guide also records provision for autism. All girls are screened on admission. House Parents work closely with tutors, boarders can talk to an independent person, and a nurse staffs the health centre during the school day.
International boarders at Truro High School for Girls are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Truro High School for Girls accepts international boarders from Year 7, with entry possible in any year from Year 7 to Year 10 and again into the Sixth Form at Year 12, while places in Year 11 are rarely available. Most students join in September. Sixth Form entrants follow a two-year A Level course. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
The school does not publish a minimum English level for each year of entry. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement.
Students whose first language is not English take a placement test on arrival that measures their level against the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR). Specialist English as an Additional Language (EAL) lessons are then taught one-to-one or in small groups, planned around each student's needs. The EAL teacher tracks progress and works with subject teachers, and Sixth Form students receive IELTS tuition to help them meet university entry requirements.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Truro High School for Girls is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time.
