Learn More →Truro School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Truro, Cornwall, for pupils aged 3 to 18. Founded by Wesleyan Methodists in 1880, it is part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, a group of Methodist schools in England. The Senior School and Sixth Form occupy a hilltop campus with around 40 acres of playing fields, less than five minutes' walk from the city centre, while the Prep School has its own site beside the Royal Cornwall Hospital.
Boarding is offered from age 11. Boarders take GCSEs in Years 10 and 11 and then A Levels in the Sixth Form, alongside the Extended Project Qualification and the school's own Sixth Form diploma.
Around half of the boarders are British, with parents overseas or elsewhere in the UK, and the rest come from about 15 countries, including Thailand, Germany, Spain, Hong Kong, China and Nigeria. Families can choose full boarding, weekly boarding from Monday to Friday or flexi boarding for occasional nights. Full boarders stay at weekends, and there are no exeat weekends.
Boarders live in three houses: Malvern for senior girls, Pentreve for younger girls and Trennick for boys of all ages. Pupils in Years 7 to 9 share twin or triple rooms, Years 10 and 11 have twin rooms and Sixth Formers have single rooms, with bathrooms close by. Each house has a kitchen and common room and is run by a Housemaster or Housemistress with a resident tutor and a team of tutors.
Dinner is followed by supervised prep, with boarding staff, who also teach, on hand to help. Boarders then use the swimming pool, fitness suite and all-weather pitch on campus. Weekend trips include surfing at Perranporth, cycling the Camel Trail, coasteering, kayaking, paintballing and theatre visits.
All Year 7 pupils and new entrants to Years 8 and 9 are screened for dyslexia, and Learning Support staff give individual help to pupils with specific learning difficulties. The Good Schools Guide also records provision for autism and hearing impairment. Boarders have a form tutor, a day pupil buddy and a boarding buddy, alongside the medical centre, a chaplain and a school counsellor.

Sixth Form students aiming for UK universities prepare for IELTS in their EAL lessons.

Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Truro School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
