Learn More →Abbey College in Malvern is an independent, co-educational boarding college for students aged 14 to 19, set on a 70-acre campus on the lower slopes of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. Most students come from overseas. London is around two and a half hours away by car or direct train. The college moved to the former Abbey School site in 1979 and is independently owned.
The academic programme covers GCSEs and International GCSEs, usually over two years, AS and A Levels over two years, and university foundation courses. Pre-sessional courses of one term to a year prepare students for these programmes. Classes are capped at 16 and average around seven students.
Almost all students live on campus as full boarders during term, which runs from a Sunday arrival to a Friday departure, with care provided 24 hours a day. Shorter boarding stays are also available through the High School Experience and pre-sessional courses.
Students live in residential houses on the campus, grouped by age and sex. Academic students have single or twin rooms, allocated by age and availability, and rooms with a private bathroom can be requested at extra cost. Residential House Parents check in and wake every student under 18 each day, with extra attention given to those under 16.
The grounds include a multi-gym, tennis and outdoor swimming, and activities include archery, fencing, basketball and yoga. Evening social events include film nights, themed parties, karaoke and campfires, supervised by welfare staff. Off-campus activities such as horse riding, climbing, ice skating, bowling and water sports can be arranged locally at extra cost.
Learning support and pastoral care are provided; families should discuss individual needs with British Guardianship. A full-time Student Services team oversees health, wellbeing and accommodation. Students who need more English can follow a reduced academic timetable alongside additional English or IELTS lessons.
