Learn More →Malvern College is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school for pupils aged 13 to 18, on the slopes of the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire. The college opened in 1865 and is at the centre of the Malvern College Family of Schools, which includes its prep school, The Downs Malvern, and Malvern College schools overseas in Qingdao, Chengdu, Egypt, Hong Kong and Tokyo. Around 640 pupils attend, about half of them in the Sixth Form.
Pupils enter the Foundation Year (Year 9) and move through the Remove and the Hundred (Years 10 and 11), taking eight core GCSEs plus two pathway options. A one-year Pre-Sixth Form course in Year 11 suits pupils who can complete GCSEs in a single year. In the Sixth Form, pupils choose the International Baccalaureate Diploma or A levels, and BTEC courses are also offered.
Full boarding is the norm at Malvern, where around 500 pupils board, from more than 45 nationalities. Families can choose full boarding, day-boarding for up to three nights a week, or day places. Full boarders are expected to stay in school during term, apart from two Leave Out weekends each term, and the college can make alternative arrangements for international pupils when going home or to a guardian is not possible.
There are 11 houses, six for boys and five for girls, with boys' and girls' houses on opposite sides of the campus. Younger pupils share larger rooms, while Sixth Formers usually have private rooms. Each house is led by a Housemaster or Housemistress with resident and non-resident staff, and has its own pupil kitchen.
Saturday is a school day, with lessons in the morning and sport and fixtures in the afternoon. Sundays are more relaxed, with trips through the term, and houses organise outings such as paintballing, theatre trips and ice skating. Evenings include supervised study time.
The Learning Support department screens pupils on entry and gives one-to-one help with literacy, numeracy and study skills, mainly for mild specific learning difficulties. Exam access arrangements are made where appropriate. House staff and tutors lead pastoral care, supported by a safeguarding team, a pupil-led wellbeing group and peer mentoring.
International boarders at Malvern College are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Malvern College has international pupils in every year group. The entry points are 13+ into the Foundation Year (Year 9), 14+ into the Remove (Year 10), 15+ into the Pre-Sixth Form course (Year 11) and 16+ into the Sixth Form, with around 200 new pupils joining each year and waiting lists in most year groups. Most international students join in September. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is tested as part of entrance assessment. For Sixth Form entry, non-native speakers are expected to reach at least CEFR B2, and international applicants who have not followed the GCSE curriculum must show academic proficiency in their chosen subjects. Levels for earlier entry points are not published, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. EAL tuition is available as an extra.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Malvern College may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
