Learn More →Chafyn Godolphin is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Salisbury, Wiltshire, educating pupils from nursery age to 18. It was formed in September 2026 by the merger of Godolphin School, founded in 1726 as one of the first girls' schools in the country, and Chafyn Grove School, founded in 1876. The school is part of United Learning, a national group of independent schools and academies.
The Senior School, Sixth Form and boarding houses occupy the former Godolphin site on Milford Hill, 150 metres from the Chafyn site used by younger pupils and less than half a mile from the city centre. Pupils follow a broad curriculum in Years 7 to 9 before taking GCSEs, and the Sixth Form offers A Levels alongside BTEC qualifications.
Boarding is offered from Year 3 through to the Sixth Form, and families can choose full, weekly or flexi boarding. International boarders can attend an induction programme before term starts.
The two boarding houses stand side by side on the senior campus. Cooper House is home to boarders from Year 3 to Year 11: younger pupils share dormitories of four to six, and Year 11 boarders may move into double or triple study rooms. Sixth Formers live in Walters House in single, double, triple or quadruple rooms with dedicated study space. A Head of Boarding oversees both houses, each led by a houseparent with resident tutors.
Evenings combine shared meals, house activities and supervised prep. Full boarders follow a weekend programme of sport, creative activities, outdoor adventures, cultural trips and social events that changes each term. The houses close for four exeat weekends a year, when boarders who cannot travel may stay in school under supervision by prior arrangement.
In the Prep School, The Link provides reading, spelling and maths intervention and support for diagnosed learning differences such as dyslexia. In the Senior School, a SEND department offers targeted intervention, classroom support, mentoring and one-to-one guidance. Pastoral care draws on form tutors, Emotional Literacy Support Assistants, counsellors and a pupil-led peer mentoring programme, and the Health and Wellness Centre is staffed by a nurse practitioner and registered nurses.

Chafyn Godolphin accepts boarders from Year 3, at age 7, through to the Sixth Form, and pupils can join the Senior School at different points, subject to availability. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. As an all-through school on neighbouring sites, it offers international families continuity from the prep years to A Levels. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Pupils whose first language is not English can receive English as an Additional Language lessons tailored to their individual needs, and boarders are encouraged to use English throughout daily life to build fluency. The pre-term induction programme helps new international pupils settle into the routines of school and boarding before lessons begin.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Chafyn Godolphin is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route. During term, boarding staff keep international pupils' passports securely, and luggage can be stored in the boarding house between terms.
Chafyn Godolphin requires pupils whose parents live overseas to have a UK-based guardian aged 25 or over, who may be a relative, a family friend or a guardianship organisation, and the school strongly recommends an AEGIS accredited organisation. The guardian acts as the family's contact in the UK, provides accommodation during exeat weekends and holidays when the boarding houses close, and helps to arrange travel.
