Learn More →Kent College Pembury is an independent day and boarding school in Pembury, on the edge of Tunbridge Wells in Kent, educating pupils aged 2 to 18 on a 75-acre countryside estate. Founded in Folkestone in 1886 as a Methodist school for girls, it moved to Pembury in 1939. The Prep School has admitted boys since 2020, and the Senior School and Sixth Form became fully co-educational in September 2026.
Senior pupils take GCSEs. The Sixth Form offers more than 20 A Level subjects, a range of BTECs and a diploma in food and nutrition, taught in small classes. International students, about a fifth of the Senior School, can also follow a One-Year GCSE course or a three-year Pre-A Level route.
Boarding is offered from Year 7, and the school presents its boarding community of around 70 as a home for girls from the UK and overseas. Full boarders stay for the whole term and may remain at school on exeat weekends, weekly boarders stay from Sunday evening or Monday morning until Friday, and flexi boarders stay one to three nights a week.
Younger boarders share rooms with up to two others, while older boarders may have their own rooms, some with en-suite bathrooms. A House Parent and an Assistant House Parent run the boarding house, supported by house tutors who help with study, the pastoral team and an on-site medical centre with its own nursing team.
Weekday evenings combine supper with structured prep, and younger boarders have planned activities such as film nights, pamper evenings and tech-free time. At weekends boarders visit London museums and theatres, go ice skating, visit theme parks or walk in the surrounding countryside. Boarders also organise an International Evening, a Charity Ball and a community Christmas lunch.
Through the Supported Learning programme, specialist SEND teachers work with pupils who have learning difficulties in small timetabled groups, building exam technique, touch typing and the use of assistive software, which eligible pupils also use in exams. Specialist EAL teachers support students whose first language is not English, and Sixth Form tutor groups meet daily.
