Learn More →Prior's Field School is an independent day and boarding school for girls aged 11 to 18 in Godalming, Surrey, set in 42 acres of countryside close to Guildford and Farnham. It was founded in 1902 by Julia Huxley and is a member of the Girls' Schools Association. Central London is around 40 minutes away.
Girls follow a broad curriculum to GCSE and then take A Levels in the Sixth Form, where the Extended Project Qualification is also offered. Sixth Formers have their own centre in Huxley House, meet their tutors daily and receive UCAS guidance.
Prior's Field has a small boarding community of around 50 girls. Full, weekly, half-weekly and flexi boarding are offered, and the full boarders are mainly international students. Overseas pupils, chiefly from Spain, China and Hong Kong, make up just under a tenth of the school.
Boarders live in School House and in Huxley House, the Sixth Form house, each with its own boarding staff team. Girls in Years 7 and 8 usually share rooms of three or four, while Year 9 girls can have individual rooms or share by choice. Years 10 and 11 have individual study bedrooms with their own common room and kitchenette, and Sixth Formers have individual study bedrooms, some en-suite, in a purpose-built house with a common room, kitchen and laundry.
Weekday evenings combine supervised prep with clubs, sport, volunteering and free time with friends. There is no Saturday school, although some Saturday mornings include sports fixtures, and outings are organised every weekend, some planned in advance and others arranged at short notice. Boarding staff place emphasis on building independence, time management and self-reliance as girls move up the school.
The Learning Pathways programme integrates learning support with mainstream lessons, using regular diagnostic assessment and teachers' classroom data to plan interventions, exam strategies and social skills work. The Good Schools Guide notes that most pupils with special needs have mild dyslexia or dyspraxia, and lists support for autism spectrum conditions. A school counsellor is part of the pastoral team, and boarding staff arrange medical, dental and optician appointments.
Every international boarder at Prior's Field School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.
Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Prior's Field School website.
Prior's Field School admits international boarders at 11+, 13+ and into the Sixth Form, and places at 12+ and 14+ may be offered at other times when space allows. Most students join in September. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Each international student's English is assessed again on arrival to set the level of support. EAL is taught one-to-one or in small groups, with two to three sessions a week in Years 7 to 11 and around two to two and a half hours a week in the Sixth Form. Lessons work towards Cambridge PET and First, GCSE English and Academic IELTS for university entry, and each student has a dedicated EAL mentor.
Students from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Prior's Field School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies once a place has been offered and accepted, for which the details of the student's UK guardian are needed. The visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Every girl whose parents live overseas must have an official guardian who is resident in the UK and over 25. The guardian arranges travel and accommodation at half terms, holidays and the May exeat, and collects and cares for the student if she is unwell and needs to leave school until she is fit to return. The school is a member of AEGIS and refers families to its resources, and school staff can arrange airport transport for new international students.
British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Prior's Field School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Prior's Field School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
