Learn More →Repton Prep is an independent, co-educational day and boarding preparatory school for children aged 3 to 13, set in 55 acres of Derbyshire countryside at Milton, about three miles from Repton. Founded in 1940, the school moved in 1947 to Foremarke Hall, a Palladian mansion built in 1755, and was formerly known as Foremarke Hall. Since merging with Repton School in 2020, it has been part of the Repton Family of Schools, a group with schools on three continents.
The merger created a continuous route from 3 to 18. Most pupils move on at 13 to Repton, with others going to senior schools such as Rugby and Uppingham, and classes have no more than 18 pupils.
Boarding starts at age 7 in Year 3, and around 40 boys and girls from the UK and overseas board. Full boarders stay at school through the week and at weekends, going home only for exeats, half terms and holidays, while weekly, home and away, and flexi boarding give UK families further choice.
Four boarding houses each take pupils from Year 3 to Year 8. Full boarders live in Francis, the boys' house in the main building, or Nightingale, the girls' house in the Hall's former stable block, where rooms have three to six beds. Knowle Hill for boys and Burdett for girls are the flexi boarding houses. Houseparents live in each house with their families, supported by boarding tutors.
Evenings in the houses are relaxed, with outdoor play, games, reading, television and time with boarding tutors before supper and bed. House traditions include hot chocolate, spa evenings and film nights. The campus includes a music school, a theatre, art studios and floodlit all-weather pitches.
The Learning Enhancement team supports pupils with specific learning differences such as dyslexia through one-to-one and small-group teaching by specialist teachers and in-class help from assistants, and the Good Schools Guide also records provision for autism, social, emotional and mental health needs, speech and language needs, and physical, visual and hearing impairments. Every Prep pupil has a form tutor, and a Health and Wellbeing Centre, a counselling team and the chaplain support pupils' wellbeing.
Every international boarder at Repton Prep must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.
Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Repton Prep website.
Repton Prep accepts boarders from Year 3 to Year 8, so international pupils can join from age 7 until the year before senior school. The school recommends that international pupils join in Year 5 or Year 6, giving time to build their English and settle in before the pressures of senior school entry. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
Repton Prep does not publish minimum English levels for entry. English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. The school has a Head of EAL, and international pupils learning English as an additional language are one of the main focus areas of the Learning Enhancement team.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Repton Prep is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies once a place is accepted and arranges specialist immigration advisers to help families prepare the application, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Repton Prep requires every pupil whose parents live abroad to have an English-speaking guardian resident in the UK. The guardian makes the arrangements at the start and end of each term and looks after the pupil during half terms, exeats and emergencies. The guardian may be a relative over 25 living in the UK or a professional guardianship organisation, a guardian living near the school is preferred, and the school refers families to AEGIS.
British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Repton Prep boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.

UK boarding schools generally require international students under 18 to have a UK-based guardian, and British Guardianship confirms Repton Prep's specific requirements as part of your application. The guardian acts on behalf of parents in the UK, is the school's point of contact in an emergency and looks after the student whenever they cannot be at school. We provide this as an AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship service.
Whenever your child cannot stay at Repton Prep, for example during half terms, exeats or holidays when boarding houses close, they stay with one of our vetted host families. Every host family is visited in their home, provides professional and personal references and holds an Enhanced DBS check for all household members aged 16 and over. British Guardianship remains your child's educational guardian throughout every stay.
We have guardians available and ready to be assigned. The overall timeframe depends on how quickly the required paperwork is completed and communication with Repton Prep is finalised. As every case is different, timelines can vary, but we aim to make the process as smooth and efficient as possible.
Boarding school guardianship is charged per term and starts from £350, with host family stays, travel arrangements and other services added as your child needs them. Full details are on our guardianship fees page.
A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Repton Prep may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
