Learn More →Talbot Heath School is an independent day and boarding school for girls in Talbot Woods, Bournemouth, on the Dorset coast. It educates girls from age 2 to 18, with the Kindergarten, Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form sharing one woodland campus. Founded in 1886, the school moved to its present site in 1936 and has a Church of England affiliation.
Boarding is offered from Year 7, and boarders progress through Key Stage 3 and GCSEs to A Levels and the Extended Project Qualification in the Sixth Form. Pupils from the school's tennis and swimming academies also board, fitting early training sessions around lessons, and boarders use the sports hall, tennis courts and 25 metre indoor pool.
Talbot Heath has a small boarding community of up to 42 girls, with full, weekly and flexi boarding available from Year 7 to Year 13. Many boarders come from overseas, particularly Hong Kong and China. There are no exeat weekends during term, so full boarders remain in school throughout each term.
Boarders live in St Mary's, the boarding house on the main campus. Most girls in Years 7 to 9 share a six-bed dormitory, while older boarders have single, double or triple rooms allocated according to individual needs. The house has two lounges, a games room, quiet study areas, a small kitchen and a laundry. A boarding team led by a senior housemistress runs the house in close contact with the school nurses.
There is no Saturday school, so weekends are given over to activities and outings, planned with input from the boarders. Trips have included Longleat Safari Park, London, the theatre and Go Ape, while evenings in the house bring film nights, board games, cooking and crafts.
Both the Junior and Senior Schools have a special educational needs coordinator, offering small-group intervention, individual lessons for girls with dyslexia without additional charge, and exam access arrangements. The Good Schools Guide notes that the school also supports girls with autism and ADHD. Pastoral care starts with form tutors, backed by a full-time wellbeing counsellor, a nursing team and a staffed wellbeing room in the Senior School.

Talbot Heath School accepts international boarders from Year 7 through to the Sixth Form, and boarders follow the same timetable and curriculum as day girls. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually, and the school states that in-year entry is possible in some year groups. Overnight or weekend taster stays in the boarding house can be arranged for prospective boarders. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Once enrolled, international pupils learn in a fully English-speaking environment, with English as an additional language support, help from an English tutor and input from the learning support team where needed. Girls whose first language is not English can also take a GCSE in their first language, adding a further qualification alongside their English-taught subjects.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Talbot Heath School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and works with a professional immigration partner to support pupils and families through the visa process, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Talbot Heath School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
