David Game College Overview

David Game College is an independent, co-educational day and boarding college in the City of London, close to the Tower of London. Founded in 1974, the college spent several decades in South Kensington and Notting Hill Gate before moving to its present City site, a 19th-century building.

The college prepares students for university through GCSE and IGCSE courses, A Levels over two years, 18 months or a single intensive year, and a University Foundation Programme, with specialist routes in medicine and life sciences and Oxbridge preparation. Classes are capped at 10, and the average class size is around 8.

Boarding at David Game College

Boarding opened in 2022 in a purpose-built boarding house next door to the college, the first in its history, and is open to students aged 14 to 18. Boarders stay in residence at weekends, when brunch and dinner are served, and the house remains open through half term.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

The boarding house has 144 rooms, and every boarder has a private bedroom. Standard single rooms sit in small clusters of two or three that share a shower room and a kitchen lounge, while en-suite singles and self-contained studios with a galley kitchen suit students who want more independence. Live-in house parents supervise each floor, supported by an on-site team at all hours, night security and CCTV.

Boarding Life

Meals are served daily in the college canteen on a full-board basis, with menus planned around an international student body. Boarders have a common room, a gaming room and a leisure room, and can study in dedicated study rooms and a silent library. Clubs such as debating, drama and football run alongside trips to the Houses of Parliament, the British Museum and the London Eye, bouldering and bowling.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Personal tutors, wellbeing and mental health support, and dedicated advice on university applications and careers form part of the college's student support. Staff also help new arrivals register with a doctor, open a bank account and find their way around London. Learning support and pastoral care are provided; families should discuss individual needs with British Guardianship.

International boarders at David Game College are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Facilities & Activities at David Game College

Information for International Students and Parents

David Game College admits students at 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18, and boarders must be at least 14, turning 15 during their first academic year. GCSE students join after completing Year 9 or Year 10 at a UK school or the overseas equivalent, and A Level students usually join at 16. Most students start in September, and 18-month A Level courses also begin in January. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

David Game College sets minimum English levels for international students by course:

  • GCSE and IGCSE courses (ages 14 to 16): IELTS 5.0 or equivalent
  • A Level courses (age 16 and over): IELTS 5.5 or equivalent

A satisfactory IELTS result can stand in place of the usual GCSE English requirement for A Level entry, and students aiming for competitive university courses are advised to work towards a higher IELTS score during their studies.

Child Student Visa

Students under 18 coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. David Game College is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, and the visa application itself is submitted by parents once a place is confirmed. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

UK boarding schools generally require international boarders under 18 to have a UK guardian, and British Guardianship confirms each school's specific requirements as part of placement. With the boarding house closed for some holiday periods, a guardian in London or the South East is especially useful for students at a central London college.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for David Game College boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents a single, reliable educational guardian in the UK.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time.
