Farringtons School Overview

Farringtons School is an independent, co-educational day and boarding school in Chislehurst, in the London Borough of Bromley close to the Kent border, educating pupils from the early years to 18 on a 25-acre site bordered by Scadbury Nature Reserve. Founded in 1911 as a Methodist school for girls, it began admitting boys in 2010 and is part of the Methodist Independent Schools Trust, a group of Methodist independent schools in England.

The Prep School and Senior School share the campus, and boarding is part of the Senior School and Sixth Form. Pupils work towards GCSEs, and the Sixth Form offers both A Level and vocational pathways, giving international students a route from Year 9 to university entrance.

Boarding at Farringtons School

Farringtons has a small boarding community. Full boarding suits international students, and weekly boarding, with weekends at home, is also offered. There are no exeats, so overseas boarders remain at school except during half terms and the main holidays. Boarders come from Spain, France, China, Hong Kong, Ukraine, Nigeria, Poland and Sierra Leone as well as South East London.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Boarders in Years 9 to 13 live in Wyvern House, a mixed house within the main school building, where boys and girls have separate bedrooms, bathrooms and showers. Rooms are doubles, triples and quads, each with desks and storage, and the house has a common room, kitchen, study room, snug, games room and laundry. Boarding staff live in apartments on the student corridors, help with homework and eat with the boarders.

Boarding Life

Lessons end at 3.50pm, followed by supervised study from 4pm to 5pm, with extra time after dinner when needed. Evenings bring sport, the indoor pool and gym, film nights, themed dinners and cooking competitions. Weekends focus on London, with trips to musicals, the cinema and shopping centres, plus go-karting, ice skating and rock climbing.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Learning support offers weekly group classes for pupils with mild dyslexia, dyspraxia, dyscalculia, autism or ADHD, with support in English, Maths and Science. An EAL department provides small-group lessons and one-to-one tutoring where needed. Each boarder has a Form Tutor, and the Chaplain, School Nurse and School Counsellor add further support.

International boarders at Farringtons School are generally expected to have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.

Information for International Students and Parents

Farringtons School accepts boarders from Year 9 to Year 13, including students who join at Sixth Form level. Most international students join in September; entry in other year groups is considered individually. Its position on the edge of London puts the capital's theatres and attractions within reach on weekend outings, and all five London airports are accessible by road or rail. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Once at school, students whose first language is not English are supported by a dedicated EAL department, with small-group sessions and individual tutoring when needed, so that they can follow lessons across the curriculum.

Child Student Visa

Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Farringtons School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
