Oxford International College Brighton Overview

Oxford International College Brighton is an independent, co-educational boarding college for students aged 13 to 18, based at Ovingdean Hall in the village of Ovingdean on the eastern edge of Brighton, East Sussex. Opened in 2023, it occupies a single campus of around 23 acres, with boarding houses on the same site as the teaching buildings, and it is part of Nord Anglia Education, an international group of schools.

Students follow the English National Curriculum through a Pre-GCSE year at 13, a two-year GCSE course or a one-year intensive GCSE programme, and a two-year A Level course. A Level students usually take four subjects in Year 12 and three or four in Year 13, with routes planned around university applications in the UK, the United States or Asia.

Boarding at Oxford International College Brighton

Oxford International College Brighton offers full boarding for international students; current boarder numbers are available on request. Students come from more than 20 countries, and boarding covers the whole of each term, including weekends and enrichment weeks, with the houses closing only for the Christmas, Easter and summer holidays.

Boarding Houses and Accommodation

Students in Years 9 to 11 live in Ainsworth House, in twin bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms, and Ainsworth also holds the Learning Resource Centre with quiet study booths. Sixth Form students board in Turing House, which has a mix of single and twin rooms, while Ovingdean House accommodates girls in Years 11 and 12. Most boarders share a room. House parents provide care around the clock, supported by the wider boarding team.

Boarding Life

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily in a communal dining room. At weekends, boarders explore The Lanes in Brighton, try paddle boarding and kayaking or hike on the South Downs, and day trips run to London, exhibitions and theme parks.

Academic and Pastoral Support

Each student has a Strategy Tutor who follows academic progress through regular testing and one-to-one mentoring, and a senior leader oversees pastoral care and wellbeing. An on-site medical centre, a wellbeing centre and a counsellor support students' health and emotional wellbeing. Learning support and pastoral care are provided; families should discuss individual needs with British Guardianship.

Information for International Students and Parents

Oxford International College Brighton admits international students at 13 into the Pre-GCSE year (Year 9), into Year 10 for the two-year GCSE course, into Year 11 for the one-year intensive GCSE programme and into Year 12 for A Levels. All programmes begin in September. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.

English Language Requirements

Offers to applicants whose first language is not English are conditional on an IELTS result, and younger applicants to Years 9 and 10 also take an English assessment. The college publishes a requirement of IELTS 6.5 for Year 12 entry by non-native speakers already studying in the UK. Students on the one-year GCSE programme take English as a Second Language, with extra English lessons built into the timetable to prepare them for A Level study. British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement.

Child Student Visa

International students coming to the UK will usually need a Child Student visa. Oxford International College Brighton is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and issues the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies once a place is accepted. The college works with a specialist immigration firm that guides families through the process, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.

UK Guardian Requirement

Oxford International College Brighton requires a UK-based guardian or close relative for every student whose parents live overseas or more than two hours from the college. The college strongly recommends an agency accredited by AEGIS or fully accredited by the BSA, and every guardian must be approved by the college before the student arrives. As the boarding houses close for the main holidays, the guardian also supports arrangements outside term.

British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Oxford International College Brighton boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the college, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays.
