Learn More →Bloxham School is an independent, co-educational boarding and day school in the village of Bloxham, near Banbury in north Oxfordshire, for around 570 pupils aged 11 to 18. Founded in 1859, it is a Church of England school and part of Woodard Schools, a group of Anglican schools across England. The campus is about three miles from the M40.
Pupils join the Lower School at 11 and the Senior School at 13, taking GCSEs before moving into a Sixth Form of around 170 students. Most sixth formers study three subjects, choosing from A Levels, BTECs in sport and hospitality and a Cambridge Technical in business, with the Extended Project Qualification also offered.
Around 250 pupils board, roughly 65 of them as full boarders. Families can choose full boarding, weekly boarding or day boarding, which includes two nights in school each week. International students form a small proportion of the community and live in the same houses as British pupils.
Lower School pupils belong to Exham House, and Lower School boarders sleep at Park Close, a short walk from the main campus. From the Third Form, pupils join one of seven senior boarding houses: Crake, Egerton, Seymour and Wilson for boys, and Raymond, Stonehill and Wilberforce for girls. Houses are vertical from Year 9 and mix full boarders with day boarders. Younger pupils sleep in dormitories, and most sixth formers have a private study bedroom. Each house is led by a Housemaster or Housemistress.
Weekday evenings include supervised prep in the houses, until 8.30pm for the Third and Fourth Form and 9pm for older pupils, followed by free time. Saturdays centre on sports fixtures, while Sundays start with a late brunch before a trip off site or time in the gym and swimming pool, ending with a quiet evening in house.
The learning support team helps pupils with needs such as dyslexia, dyspraxia and visual or hearing impairments, and a specialist dyslexia course from Year 9 to GCSE can replace a modern foreign language. Each pupil has a personal tutor, the Palmer Health Centre is staffed by registered nurses, and a counsellor visits twice a week.
Every international boarder at Bloxham School must have a UK guardian. British Guardianship provides AEGIS accredited boarding school guardianship for international students at UK boarding schools.
Every accredited UK boarding school offers a range of sport, arts and academic facilities for international students, together with an extended programme of activities in the evenings and at weekends. For full details of the facilities and activities available, please visit the official Bloxham School website.
Bloxham School accepts international boarders of any nationality, with the main entry points at 13 into the Third Form, at 14 into the Fourth Form and at 16 into the Sixth Form. Most students join in September. International pupils are placed in the senior boarding houses rather than a separate international house, which helps them settle quickly and form friendships with British classmates. British Guardianship supports international families through every stage of the application with our boarding school admissions service.
English is assessed as part of the application, and British Guardianship confirms the level required for each year of entry during placement. Pupils whose English needs development receive individual EAL tuition, which is compulsory for overseas students who need language support and is charged per term. These lessons take the place of a modern foreign language in the timetable.
Students coming to the UK from overseas will usually need a Child Student visa. Bloxham School is a licensed Child Student sponsor on the UKVI register and can issue the Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies needed for an application, while the visa application itself is submitted by parents. Our Child Student visa guide explains the requirements and process, and families holding a British National (Overseas) visa can contact us for guidance on the BN(O) route.
Bloxham School requires every pupil whose parents live outside the UK to have a UK guardian. The guardian may be a relative living in the UK who is over 25 and within an hour's drive of the school, a family friend over 25, or a guardianship organisation, and the school recommends an AEGIS accredited guardian. The guardian must be reachable at any time in an emergency during term, acts in place of parents and arranges exeats, half terms and holidays, including the extended weekends in the autumn term.
British Guardianship is AEGIS accredited and a BSA Certified Guardian, and can act as the nominated UK guardian for Bloxham School boarders. Our boarding school guardianship service covers regular contact with the school, travel coordination and safe accommodation with vetted host families during half terms, exeats and holidays, giving parents one dependable point of contact in the UK.

A UK student guardian must be a responsible adult, usually aged 25 or over, who lives permanently in the UK, speaks fluent English and is close enough to the school to respond quickly in an emergency; many boarding schools set a maximum travel time. The guardian must be contactable 24 hours a day and hold an Enhanced DBS check where they or their household host the student. Bloxham School may also ask for the guardian's details before the start of term and set additional requirements of its own. As an AEGIS accredited guardianship provider, British Guardianship meets these requirements on your behalf, with vetted guardians, Enhanced DBS checked host families and 24-hour emergency support.
